Indian leg-spinner who has represented India seven times in white-ball cricket and plays for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, Rahul Chahar has been included in Surreyβs squad for the match against Hampshire in the final County Championship game of the season. Talking about the stake, the Three Feathers must win against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl to retain their Division One title following the loss against Nottinghamshire at the Oval last week.
Hereβs what we know so far about Rahul Charaβs inclusion in Surrey.
Details of Rahul Chahar’s Inclusion in Surrey
In another twist in the County Championship, Surrey have included Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar in their squad for the last match of the season against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl. Surrey had registered the 26-year-old in early September but did not require him to play their two home games at The Oval.
In addition to this, a few spin options are also not available, including the names like Will Jacks and Cam Steel, who are injured, and R. Sai Kishore, who is still recovering after having finger surgery. As a result, Surrey have called Chahar as a timely replacement for their crucial match against Hampshire to retain their Division One title.

Surrey vs Hampshire: Match Details
Apart from the news of Rahul Chaharβs inclusion in the Surrey squad, the match is scheduled between Surrey and Hampshire at the Rose Bowl from 24 to 27 September 2025. With the County Championship Division One entering the final round, the 68th match holds significance, especially for Surrey as they could win the title with a win. They are currently in the second position with 189 points from 13 games.
On the other hand, the eighth-positioned Hampshire has 142 points from 13 matches and will look to stun the defending champions with a win. Their recent games have been largely drawn, and they possess the capability with the ball of Kyle Abbott and James Fuller, while Ben Brown and Fletcha Middleton are charging from the batting department.
In the case of Surrey, Dom Sibley and Dan Lawrence are in good form while batting, and Daniel Worrall and Jordan Clark have been proving to be the best from the bowling attack. However, the inclusion of Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar can certainly provide them with an additional spin option, especially when Surrey are experiencing injury issues in their bowling department.
Amit Mishraβs Perspective
From a cricket fanβs point of view, it is quite exciting to see Rahul Chaharβs inclusion in Surreyβs squad for the final and crucial match in the County Championship against Hampshire. In addition to this, it will be interesting to see how the inactive player Chahar will perform in the match, particularly when he has not been associated with professional cricket matches. However, Rahul Chaharβs stats in first-class cricket show the testament of his hard work and dedication towards domestic cricket as well.
On the other hand, Rahul Chaharβs inclusion might not be fruitful to the team, as he will be playing for Surrey out of nowhere, which can vastly affect the communication as well as the coordination gap among the team members. Regardless of what will happen, I am pretty much excited for what Rahul Chahar brings to the table on September 24.
