Ryana MacDonald-Gay led Manchester Super to a dominant seven-wicket victory over London in their opening match of the 2026 season. The match took place at Lord’s on 23 July 2026.
The Super Giants started their campaign by bowling out the hosts for just 80 runs before reaching the target in only 59 balls. Consequently, Manchester moved to the top of The Hundred table based on their superior net run-rate.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay earned the Player of the Match award. She took 4 wickets by giving 17 runs throughout her spell. She consistently hit the right lengths and forced the Spirit batters into making mistakes.
MacDonald-Gay first took the wicket of Marie Kelly, who top-edged a delivery to Paige Scholfield at cover. Shortly after, she worked with Lanning to dismiss the dangerous Marizanne Kapp for 17 runs. London Spirit Collapse Early at Lord’s
The London Spirit innings began poorly. Grace Ballinger and Maitlan Brown dismissed Grace Harris and Amy Jones within the first two overs. Consequently, the Spirit found themselves in deep trouble, making just 23 runs while losing 4 early wickets in the game.
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone bowled out Deandra Dottin for just four runs. Ecclestone took 1 wicket and gave only 7 runs from her 20 balls. Additionally, the Spirit suffered from a lack of communication, leading to the run-out of vice-captain Charlie Dean for 14. Eventually, the hosts were bundled out for 80 with nine balls still remaining in their set.

Manchester Super Giants Chase Down Target Quickly
In response, the Manchester Super Giants openers Smriti Mandhana and Meg Lanning started cautiously against the bowling of Marizanne Kapp. They built a steady partnership of 33 runs before Mandhana fell lbw to Kapp for 17.
Kapp briefly threatened a comeback by dismissing Grace Scrivens for a golden duck on the very next ball. However, the introduction of Richa Ghosh quickly ended any hopes for London Spirit. Ghosh smashed two sixes in just four balls to accelerate the scoring. Meanwhile, Paige Scholfield remained not out on 22 to guide her team over the finish line.

After the game, Ryana MacDonald-Gay said the key to her success was following basic plans. She was in a good rhythm and stayed confident throughout her sets. Sophie Ecclestone also praised the team’s mega start and said the bowlers didn’t really miss their lines and lengths.
The Super Giants’ bowling attack worked in clusters to prevent the Spirit from forming partnerships. Therefore, the hosts could not post a competitive total on a surface that favoured the ball over the bat. Specifically, the variable bounce made it difficult for batters to time their shots effectively.

The powerful win means the Manchester Super Giants are now at the top of the Hundred 2026 Points Table. They have a very high net run-rate as they finished the game so quickly. It’s a perfect start to their 2026 campaign as they aim to stay the team to watch this season.
