As the announcement of Namibia vs South Africa T20I came out, it shows that the T20I is globalizing pretty quickly. Just imagine a 16th-ranked team playing against the T20 World Cup finalists. Well, the exposure is pretty huge.
Namibia, in recent times, has done well in the shortest format, and this one-off T20I match will only help them grow. This African neighbor’s camaraderie has hardly seen each other being involved in a T20I match.
Namibia to Host South Africa For One-Off T20I
The one-off T20I match will take place on October 11, 2025, in Windhoek. The game will mark the official opening of FNB Namibia Cricket Ground. This state-of-the-art cricket facility will hold 7000 spectators, featuring Namibia’s High-Performance Centre, a restaurant, and a hospitality wing.
This will be the first occasion when both teams will be playing a T20I match.

Namibia To Host U19 Cricket World Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027
Following the one-off T20I match against South Africa, Namibia will be up and running to host the U19 World Cup 2026 and, later, the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2027.
Not only Namibia but also South Africa and Zimbabwe will be the co-hosts of the tournament.
Johan Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia, expressed immense joy, saying, “this truly is a memorable occasion. The new FNB NCG has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialized. A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world class facility.”
Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki has said that it is a massive opportunity to host the global tournament. He also said that Windhoek will officially open to host the World Cup.
Pholetsi also said that it is a historical occasion for Namibia and South Africa to play a T20I match against each other. Namibia is competitive, and we need to be focused, which is what the CEO had to say.
Hard Work For Namibia To Qualify
Even though the host nation will directly qualify for the World Cup, it won’t be the same for Namibia. They will have to play the qualifier round.
However, the likes of Zimbabwe and South Africa, as full member host nations, will directly qualify for the mega event. At the moment, Namibia is playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2nd qualifying round.
Along with Namibia, you will find 7 other associate nations. By the end of the group stage, the top 4 teams will play the qualifiers.
However, being part of the qualifier isn’t enough. You will have to be in the top 4 to do well, and then you will be part of the 14-team marquee ODI World Cup 2027 event.
