Jordan Hermann marked his ODI debut with an extraordinary 150, and guided South Africa to a 99-run win over Namibia in the opening match of their three-game series in Windhoek. The right-hander’s innings, the joint-highest score on debut in ODI history, anchored South Africa’s total of 348 for 6, a target Namibia never threatened as their chase folded to 162 for 8 under Duckworth-Lewis-Stern calculations.
Hermann became the fifth South African to score a century on debut, joining Colin Ingram, Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks and Matthew Breetzke on that list, and only the second to push past a hundred and reach 150 in his first appearance. He built a 190-run second-wicket partnership with Tony de Zorzi, who made 72 off 84 balls for his third ODI half-century.
Namibia had a chance to remove Hermann on 30, when a direct hit at the non-striker’s end went unrewarded without DRS available to review the decision. He converted that reprieve into a match-defining score.
Hermann’s Debut Century Sets Up Big South Africa Total
South Africa lost Connor Esterhuizen early, caught at fine leg off Ruben Trumpelmann in the seventh over, but recovered through the Hermann-de Zorzi stand. The pair took the score to 100 for 1 after 20 overs before accelerating, adding 50 runs in the next seven overs.
Hermann reached his fifty with a single off Jack Brassell and brought up his century off 93 balls. He then opened up with a series of scoops and finished with 17 fours and three sixes.
De Zorzi was given out LBW after he attempted a reverse sweep. His dismissal brought Dewald Brevis to the crease. Brevis needed only two balls to hit a six. South Africa passed 266 with ten overs left before Hermann fell to Louren Steenkamp at backward point off a slower ball from Trumpelmann. That wicket triggered a collapse.
South Africa lost four wickets for 58 runs, and Trumpelmann claimed three of them. Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten 39 off 24 balls then pushed the total to 348.

Subrayen’s Four-Wicket Haul Seals Namibia Collapse
Namibia’s reply never gained traction. The openers added just 24 runs in the first ten overs, and the innings lost momentum from there. Alex Busing-Volschenk fell to Kwena Maphaka after surviving a dropped catch, and Jan Frylinck managed only seven runs off 16 balls before dragging on.
Malan Kruger was the top scorer with 34. He was lbw to Prenelan Subrayen in the 19th over, and left Namibia at 73 for 3 when rain first interrupted play.
The target was revised to 301 from 38 overs, and further rain reduced it again to 262 from 31 overs. Subrayen finished with a career-best 4 for 28, while South Africa’s seam attack shared the remaining wickets.
Namibia lost four wickets for 67 runs in the closing overs, with JJ Smit’s 31 off 20 balls the only resistance, as South Africa completed a 99-run win on DLS.

Series Moves to Second ODI
South Africa now lead the three-match series 1-0. The result also formed part of preparations for both nations, co-hosts of the 2027 men’s ODI World Cup, ahead of the tournament.
Namibia will look to respond in the second ODI, while South Africa will aim to build on Hermann’s debut performance and their bowlers’ combined effort with the ball.
