India’s left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has signed a short-term contract with Warwickshire to feature in two County Championship Division One matches. The deal marks his first experience in English domestic cricket and comes just days after a stunning Test debut for India.
Warwickshire confirmed the signing on June 10, 2026. Suthar will be available for the Bears’ upcoming fixtures against Yorkshire in Scarborough, starting June 12, and Somerset in Taunton, beginning June 19.
Suthar’s Arrival Comes on the Back of a Stunning Test Debut
The timing of the move speaks volumes about where Suthar currently stands in Indian cricket. Last week, he was handed his Test cap against Afghanistan and delivered an immediate impact. He claimed 6 for 33 in the first innings and picked up one more wicket in the second as India secured their biggest-ever Test win. He walked away with the Player of the Match award on debut.
Those numbers carry weight. Suthar now holds 129 wickets from 29 first-class matches, a record that reflects consistent performance at domestic level over several seasons. The Warwickshire stint gives him the opportunity to test those skills on English pitches, where conditions can vary significantly from what spinners encounter in India.
Warwickshire Eye Title Push With New Spin Option
Warwickshire are well-placed in the County Championship table, currently sitting second on points. James Thomas, the club’s performance director, welcomed the signing and pointed to its significance for the team’s title ambitions.
“We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and Manav will bring a new aspect to our bowling attack,” Thomas said. “It shows how highly he’s rated in India after his selection to their Test team last week, so it’s going to be great to have him around the group.”
Suthar himself expressed genuine enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games,” he said. “The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title.”

Suthar is not the first Indian player to represent the Bears. Jayant Yadav, Krunal Pandya and Mohammed Siraj have all turned out for Warwickshire in previous seasons. The two fixtures ahead present different challenges. Scarborough traditionally offers conditions that assist seam movement, while Taunton can be a high-scoring ground.
