Indian top-order batter Mayank Agarwal signed a four-game contract with Durham on 31 August 2026. The 35-year-old Karnataka batsman joins the squad immediately to help secure promotion to Division One.
He replaces South African batter David Bedingham, who returned home to prepare for South Africa’s Test series against Australia. Agarwal will make his debut in the next match against Northamptonshire at the Cinch County Ground on 2 September 2026.

Durham stands on top of the County Championship Division Two table with 191 points from 10 matches with seven wins and three draws. Durham are now 40 points clear of both Kent and Northamptonshire with four games remaining. Agarwal brings a wealth of international experience to Durham’s batting lineup. He has scored 8,929 runs in 124 first class games at an average of 43.98. He also has 21 centuries and 48 half-centuries to his name. This record makes him an ideal replacement for David Bedingham.
Agarwal played for Yorkshire during the closing matches of the 2025 County Championship. He scored 201 runs in that brief three game period. He did record two ducks in his first three innings but finished the season with an excellent performance. In particular, he hit a match-winning 175 against Durham in his final innings.

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell expressed strong enthusiasm about the signing, calling Mayank Agarwal a “hugely talented batter who possesses a superb first-class record.”
Campbell explained that David Bedingham’s return to South Africa to prepare for their Test series against Australia left a major gap in the side.
