Harmanpreet and Sciver-Brunt Power MI to 195
After Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to field, Mumbai started badly when Amelia Kerr departed for a golden duck off the very first ball from Chinelle Henry. But what followed was a masterclass in power-hitting and smart batting that turned the game completely.
G Kamalini steadied things alongside Sciver-Brunt, contributing 16 runs before falling to debutant Nandani Sharma. The English all-rounder then took charge, smashing 13 boundaries in her 46-ball knock.
Once Sciver-Brunt fell to Sree Charani after a fluent 70, the MI skipper shifted gears. Harmanpreet struck eight fours and three sixes, reaching her fifty off 34 balls.
She found an able partner in Nicola Carey, who hammered 21 off just 12 deliveries. The pair added 53 runs in quick time before Carey was bowled by Nandani Sharma.
Harmanpreet remained unbeaten and plundered 19 runs off the final over to push Mumbai toward 200. Sajana Sajeevan was not out on 5 as Mumbai finished on 195/4.
โFor Delhi, Nandani Sharma impressed on debut with figures of 2/26 in three overs, dismissing both Kamalini and Carey. Chinelle Henry, Sree Charani, and Sneh Rana picked up a wicket each, but the bowlers couldn’t contain the MI batters.

โDelhi Collapses, Hands Mumbai an Easy Win
Chasing 196, Delhi’s innings fell apart inside the powerplay. Shabnim Ismail removed captain Jemimah Rodrigues for just 1 in the opening spell.
Then Nicola Carey produced a devastating fifth over, dismissing both Shafali Verma (8) and Laura Wolvaardt (9) to leave DC reeling at 33/3. The collapse worsened when Carey struck again to remove Marizanne Kapp for 5, and suddenly Delhi were 46/5 in the seventh over.
Lizelle Lee (10) had already fallen to Sciver-Brunt, and the top order had crumbled without resistance. Niki Prasad (12) and Chinelle Henry attempted a recovery with a 40-run stand for the sixth wicket.
But Amelia Kerr broke through, bowling Prasad with a googly. Henry fought back with a blazing counter-attack, slamming 56 off 33 balls with five fours and three sixes.ย
Her aggressive innings gave Delhi some respectability and prevented an even bigger margin of defeat. However, once Kerr had her caught by Carey at long-off, the writing was on the wall.
The lower order folded quickly as Sneh Rana (11), Minnu Mani (7), and Sree Charani (10) couldn’t sustain the chase. Nandani Sharma was the last to fall, caught by Amanjot Kaur off Sanskriti Gupta’s bowling, as Delhi were bowled out for 145 in 19 overs.
Bowlers Lead Mumbai’s Clinical Display
Mumbai’s bowling team gave an all-round display. Nicola Carey, taking three wickets for 37 runs off four overs, removed the key wickets of Verma, Wolvaardt, and Kapp to lead Mumbai to victory. Amelia Kerr claimed three wickets at a cost of 24 runs in total, and dismissed Prasad, Henry and Mani.
Nat Sciver-Brunt took two wickets (for 29 runs), and Shabnim Ismail was the most economical with one wicket (for 14 runs) off four overs. Sanskriti Gupta then picked up the final wicket and sealed a very good win for Mumbai.
โWhat It Means
This confident victory gave the Mumbai Indians their first wins of WPL 2026 after being defeated by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the previous day (in an extremely close finish). Player of the Match was Harmanpreet, for her batting skills and leadership abilities that helped her team get their first win of the season.
The defeat was a difficult start to Jemimah Rodrigues’ captaincy tenure of Delhi Capitals. The top-order failure and inability to build partnerships cost them dearly. They’ll need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture against Gujarat Giants on January 11.
