Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali and Pakistan’s spin bowlers knocked Thailand out of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 on 1 September 2026. Pakistan secured a dominant 35-run victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Pakistan defended a modest total of 119 runs by restricting Thailand to 84 for eight in their 20 overs to earn their first two points of the tournament.
Consequently, this Group A match mathematically eliminated Thailand from semi-final contention. Meanwhile, Muneeba Ali anchored the victory with 54 runs off 52 balls before left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal took three wickets for 11 runs to dismantle the Thai chase.
Early Wickets Put Pakistan Under Pressure
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and chose to bat. However, Thailand’s bowlers immediately put Pakistan under immense pressure on a slow pitch. Thipatcha Putthawong bowled a superb opening spell. She dismissed opener Shawaal Zulfiqar for just one run in the second over. Also, she took the wicket of Gull Feroza for a four-ball duck on the final delivery of that same over, leaving Pakistan reeling at six runs for two wickets.
Additionally, Phannita Maya struck in the fifth over to dismiss Ayesha Zafar for nine runs. Pakistan fell to 23 runs for three wickets inside the powerplay.

Muneeba Ali and Sadaf Shamas Rebuild the Innings
To rescue the innings for Pakistan, Sadaf Shamas joined Muneeba Ali to form a partnership of 54 runs for the fourth wicket. Shamas contributed a run-a-ball 20, hitting three boundaries.
However, spinner Suleeporn Laomi broke the partnership in the 13th over. Laomi dismissed Shamas, who miscued a shot to Maya at cover-point. Subsequently, Laomi caught captain Fatima Sana off her own bowling for a two-ball duck. Therefore, Pakistan slipped to 77 runs for five wickets.
Meanwhile, Muneeba Ali anchored the entire innings scoring 54 runs off 52 balls, which included four boundaries. This marked her fourth half-century in Women’s T20 Internationals. Later, in the 17th over, wicketkeeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai stumped Ali off the bowling of Laomi.
Likewise, Umm-e-Hani scored 17 runs, and Tuba Hassan scored 12 runs to help Pakistan reach 119 runs for nine wickets.

Sadia Iqbal and Pakistan’s Spin Attack Dismantle Thailand
Thailand started their chase of 120 runs but left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal derailed the Thai chase in the second over. Iqbal bowled a double-wicket maiden, dismissing Phannita Maya for four runs and Nannapat Koncharoenkai for a duck. Consequently, Thailand collapsed to six runs for two wickets.
Thailand’s captain Naruemol Chaiwai and opener Natthakan Chantham added 27 runs for the third wicket. However, Nashra Sandhu broke the partnership in the tenth over by bowling Chantham for 14 runs.
Meanwhile, leg-spinner Tuba Hassan dismissed Chaiwai for 17 runs in the 13th over. Later, wicketkeeper Muneeba Ali stumped Aphisara Suwanchonrathi for 13 runs off Tuba Hassan’s bowling.
Sadia Iqbal dismissed Sutthiruang in the final over of the match. Sadia Iqbal finished the match with three wickets for 11 runs from her four overs.
Group A Points Table and Standings
This 35-run victory moved Pakistan to second place in Group A table points, level on points with India. Meanwhile, this defeat mathematically eliminated Thailand from the semi-final race, as they have played all three of their group games.
Consequently, the upcoming matches will decide the final semi-finalists from Group A. India will face Hong Kong on 3 September 2026. The highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan will take place on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
