Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar each took three wickets as India reduced Sri Lanka to 265 for 8 on Day 3 of the second Test. The match took place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 25 August 2026.
The hosts still trail India’s first-innings for 503-9 declared by 238 runs and must score 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on. Rain ended the day early, allowing only 80.4 of the scheduled 98 overs.
Prasidh and Suthar Dominated India’s Bowling Attack
Prasidh Krishna took three wickets for 47 runs from his 14 overs. Prasidh got an early wicket in the morning session when he dismissed opener Kamil Mishara for 19 runs. Dhruv Jurel caught Mishara off his glove after the batsman fended at a bouncing delivery. Later, Prasidh broke a dangerous 87-run partnership between Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis. Prasidh had also dismissed opener Lahiru Udara late on Monday to claim his third wicket of the innings.
Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar bowled 21 overs and finished with three wickets for 83 runs. Suthar drew the batsmen forward with flighted deliveries. He dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who edged a flighted ball to KL Rahul at first slip. Suthar later dismissed Keshara Nuwantha, who drove a tossed-up delivery straight to Saransh Jain at mid-off.

Sri Lanka Finish on 265 for Eight
Sri Lanka resumed the third day on their overnight score of 8-2. Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who played in the starting side for the first time, scored 80 runs and hit nine fours. Sooriyabandara had previously played in Galle as a concussion substitute for Dinesh Chandimal. He reached his maiden Test half-century in 76 balls during a morning session where he and Mendis batted for nearly two hours. However, Ravindra Jadeja ended Sooriyabandara’s innings.
Following that dismissal, Sonal Dinusha scored a century and 84 runs in the first Test in Galle. He ended the day unbeaten on 85 runs. His innings included six fours and two sixes. He reached his half-century in 84 balls.
Dinusha shared a 57-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Keshara Nuwantha. After Suthar dismissed Nuwantha, Dinusha found support from fast bowler Lahiru Kumara. The pair added an unbeaten 35 runs for the ninth wicket.

Rain Ends Play Early in Colombo
Rain frequently interrupted Day 3. Ground staff had to put the covers on and off multiple times, which took considerable time. The weather eventually forced the umpires to call stumps with just over 10 minutes left in the scheduled day.
India’s fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed that India plans to enforce the follow-on once they take the final two Sri Lankan wickets. Morkel noted that the persistent rain makes the match timing tight. He told reporters that India wants to ask Sri Lanka to bat again to maintain pressure.

What Next on Day 4
India leads the two-match series 1-0, having won the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs. Both teams will resume play on Day 4.
The second Test will continue with Sri Lanka still batting in their first innings. Dinusha will resume on 85, with Kumara on eight and Asitha Fernando still to bat.
Sri Lanka needs 238 more runs to draw level with India’s first-innings total of 503. India will need two wickets to complete Sri Lanka’s innings.
