BCCI, CA & ECB

Top 10 Richest Cricket Boards in the World (2026) BCCI, CA, & ECB Ranked

In 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remained the wealthiest cricket organization in the world, with a valuation of 2.4 billion. This number places BCCI almost 28 times above Cricket Australia, which is second with 85 million.

This figure puts BCCI nearly 28 times ahead of Cricket Australia, which ranks second with $85 million. The gap between the top board and others shows how much financial power India holds in world cricket.

Cricket boards make money from several sources. Broadcasting rights bring in 40 to 60% of total revenue for the bigger boards. Domestic T20 leagues like the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League now contribute 30-50% to their respective boards. Smaller boards depend heavily on ICC revenue sharing, which accounts for 40 to 60% of their income.

The IPL 2023 to 2027 broadcasting rights alone brought $6.2 billion to BCCI. This one deal is worth more than all of the other cricket boards put together. The BCCI also allocates around β‚Ή2,000 crore annually to state cricket associations across India. This is more than most international boards make in a year.

Full List of the Top 10 Cricket Boards

The financial rankings of cricket boards changed significantly over the last 10 years because domestic T20 leagues became big money-makers. Here are the full rankings, with values in both US dollars and Indian rupees.

1. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) – $2.4 billion / β‚Ή21,200 crore

BCCI’s $2.4 billion valuation towers over all other cricket boards, making it roughly 40 times richer than the Bangladesh Cricket Board and far ahead of every other cricket organization in the world. The Indian Premier League drives most of this wealth through massive broadcasting deals.

Star Sports, Viacom18, and Times Internet paid approximately β‚Ή48,390 crore over five years for IPL rights from 2023 to 2027, meaning over $1.2 billion comes in each season just from television and digital streaming across India and global markets.

The board receives the largest share from ICC revenue distribution because India contributes the most to global cricket earnings. As a top-tier ICC member, BCCI receives a disproportionately large share of ICC television revenue and tournament revenue, especially from World Cups. When India plays a bilateral series anywhere in the world, broadcasting rights sell for premium prices. Home series in India always draw big crowds, which generate revenue from ticket sales and local sponsors.

IPL Franchise Income and Sponsorships

The board secures large annual contracts with IPL league sponsors, team sponsors, and national team jersey and series title sponsors across sectors such as banking, telecommunications, automobiles, and beverages.

The BCCI runs 38 state and regional cricket associations across India. Every year, each association receives about β‚Ή2,000 crore to spend on local tournaments, infrastructure development, and training new players. Most international cricket boards don’t generate this much revenue.

Player Salaries and Infrastructure Investment

Cricket players in India make more money than anywhere else in the world. Indian cricketers are among the highest-paid athletes in the country, earning from central contracts, match fees, and IPL salaries. The board spends heavily on improving stadiums across India, as well as on women’s cricket programs and youth development initiatives.

The BCCI helps state cricket associations, such as the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and the Mumbai Cricket Association, run their own tournaments. District-level cricket receives substantial funding that helps identify and nurture young players early in their careers.

2. Cricket Australia (CA) – $85 million / β‚Ή708 crore

Cricket Australia is the second-richest board, valued at $85 million, but it is still far behind the BCCI. Broadcasting accounts for approximately 60% of CA’s revenue. In the 2023-24 financial year, Cricket Australia generated around A$450 million (roughly $290-300 million USD), driven primarily by the India series and pay-TV deals with Fox Sports and Kayo.

The most profitable domestic innovation at CA since its inception in 2011 has been the Big Bash League. Individual BBL broadcast deals, title sponsors, and key partners connected to the Big Bash generate significant income. CA also benefits from franchise-related deals, despite the fact that most clubs are privately owned.

The Ashes and India Tours

The Ashes series against England brings in significant revenue every two years. These are among the most popular cricket matches globally, and both Cricket Australia and the ECB profit handsomely from them. When India tours Australia, CA makes tremendous money because the series generates massive revenue from ticket sales and television broadcasts.

The 2024-25 India tour pushed revenue even higher, though CA reported a net loss of approximately A$11-12 million due to rising operational costs.

Across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania, CA funds cricket development and runs competitive state-level competitions.

Commercial Partnerships

Cricket Australia makes substantial money from broadcast deals with Channel Seven and Fox Sports. The board negotiates different packages for men’s and women’s international games, the BBL, and domestic matches played across Australia. Major sponsors like Commonwealth Bank and Alinta Energy help CA generate additional revenue through commercial partnerships.

3. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) – $64 million / β‚Ή533 crore

The England and Wales Cricket Board receives $64 million in revenue from various forms of cricket and competitions. About 75 percent of the ECB’s revenue goes to broadcasting, and its turnover is estimated at approximately 310 million euros a year.

Most of these are rights to televised England home matches, such as Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and The Hundred fixtures, sold to Sky and other broadcasters.

The majority comes from television rights sold to Sky and other platforms covering England home internationals, including Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, as well as The Hundred schedules.

The Hundred tournament started in 2021 to attract more fans through shorter games and city-based teams. This event generates substantial revenue for television networks in England during the summer and fills stadiums across eight host cities.

County Cricket Structure

County cricket remains the most important part of English cricket’s structure. The ECB runs 18 first-class counties and provides them with funding to operate. There is cricket all year round because the T20 Blast runs alongside The Hundred and the county championship, creating multiple revenue streams.

Broadcasting Deals and Sponsorships

Most England cricket matches are covered by Sky Sports, which pays a lot of money for exclusive coverage. The BBC broadcasts some cricket games on free-to-air TV, which helps keep the sport in mind and retain its cultural aspect. The sponsors of the ECB include Cinch, Vitality, and Metro Bank, which sign multi-year deals with the ECB.

The board offers grants to local clubs and facilities in order to promote recreational cricket in England and Wales. The World Cup of 2017 brought a big investment in women’s cricket as the England team won and became the winners of this event, and the women players were given professional contracts.

4. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) – $59 million / β‚Ή492 crore

The Pakistan Cricket Board is valued at $59 million, and the Pakistan Super League is a major driver of this valuation. The PSL began in 2016 and quickly became one of the largest T20 cricket leagues in the world.

Recent analyses suggest that 70 to 80% of PCB’s income comes from ICC central money, especially under the Future Tours Programme-based distribution system. Loss of playoff shares or withholding of funds if PCB doesn’t participate in World Cup or similar events can directly threaten more than 70% of PCB’s cash flow.

The PSL also generates massive revenue when sold to local and digital channels, as well as title and team sponsors, who generate hundreds of crores every season. The owners of the franchises pay the licence and sponsorship shares to PCB, which is deposited into central accounts. PSL has six franchise teams in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.

There are six PSL franchise teams based in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. The league attracts international players and achieves strong television ratings in Pakistan and among Pakistani diaspora communities abroad. Major sponsors like HBL and Pepsi make the PSL increasingly profitable.

Budget Planning and ICC Dependency

ICC distributions still play a critical role in how PCB plans its budget. Pakistan’s board is heavily dependent on ICC funding, so policy disputes or boycott-related issues can seriously impact PCB’s valuation and operational capacity.

5. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) – $55 million / β‚Ή458 crore

The Bangladesh Premier League, home series broadcasting rights, and ICC revenue sharing bring in $55 million for the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

BCB had been an associate member of the ICC for a long period before becoming a full member in 2000. Since becoming a full member, the board has invested heavily in the country’s cricketing facilities and competitions.

The Bangladesh Premier League earns revenue through television rights contracts with Star Sports and other television channels, as well as title and key sponsors. The franchise owners submit their central fees, compliance money, and taxation residuals to the BCB.

The BPL has teams based in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, and other cities during winter. The league generates revenue through TV rights and assists both homegrown and world stars who take part in the league in expanding their brands and incomes.

Home Series Broadcasting Rights

BCB earns from home series television rights, including high-value India visits when scheduled, as well as tours by England, Australia, and other nations. International broadcasters, especially Indian and UK platforms, pay for broadcasting rights within overseas markets.

The team’s home games against India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and other opponents generate revenue from ticket sales and local media rights.

Bangladesh cricket has improved significantly over the last 15 years. People are more interested in the national team now that they’re performing well in ODIs and Test matches. In Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet, BCB built new stadiums and renovated older facilities to international standards.

ICC Revenue Share and Financial Challenges

BCB’s ICC share is much smaller than BCCI, CA, or ECB, representing roughly 4 to 5% of total ICC distributions, but it still forms a critical base layer of funding. Any reduction in ICC revenue share hurts BCB more proportionally than it affects richer boards.

6. Cricket South Africa (CSA) – $51 million / β‚Ή425 crore

The new SA20 league is a significant source of income that has helped Cricket South Africa reach a valuation of $51 million. SA 20 was started with investment by Indian Premier League franchise owners, whose capital and expertise were introduced into South African cricket. The league is held in the  South African summer, and the best international players are involved.

SA20 is now a major pillar of CSA’s finances. The board earns revenue through television rights deals, sponsorships, franchise-sharing arrangements, and prize money levies. After the 2023-24 season, CSA’s revenues jumped approximately 170% year-on-year to about R1.9 billion, largely due to SA20, the India tour, and ICC distributions.

Domestic Competitions and Broadcasting

CSA runs domestic competitions, including the CSA T20 Challenge, four-day franchise series, and one-day cup. Broadcasting deals with SuperSport provide regular income for South African cricket operations. Rights deals with South African and international broadcasters for home Tests, ODIs, and T20Is against India, England, and other opponents generate substantial revenue.

Infrastructure and Development Programs

South Africa’s cricket infrastructure includes quality stadiums in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Centurion, and Port Elizabeth. CSA invests in development programs designed to find talent from all communities across the country.

Sponsorships with airline, banking, and energy-brand partners, plus ticket revenue from World Cup-style venues, add smaller but vital revenue layers.

7. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) – $41 million / β‚Ή342 crore

ICC funding and distributions bring in most of Zimbabwe Cricket’s $41 million valuation. Zimbabwe Cricket has historically been heavily reliant on ICC support, with major funding coming from ICC grants during financial crises or reform phases. ICC also pays Future Tours Programme-type shares plus hosting-related fee components for matches and events.

Cricket funding is greatly affected by the country’s ongoing economic problems. ZC plays fewer international matches than bigger boards, which reduces ticket sales and television broadcast revenue. Zimbabwe’s wealth sits modestly below Pakistan and Bangladesh because its domestic commercial market is thin and domestic league income remains weak.

Bilateral Series and Domestic Competitions

Regular bilateral series against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Afghanistan, usually played at Harare and Bulawayo, generate small-scale gate receipts and television rights. Limited-format national-level T20 competitions and occasional franchise-style events bring minor but helpful cash through sponsors and short broadcasting deals.

South African neighbour support and occasional infrastructure aid tied to governance reforms help keep accounts stable during crises. ICC money helps ZC maintain basic cricket operations and national team programs.

The board’s main goal is to keep cricket alive in Zimbabwe while hoping the economy improves so more money can be invested in developing the sport.

8. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) – $23 million / β‚Ή192 crore

Sri Lanka Cricket receives $23 million from the Lanka Premier League, ICC distributions, and home series broadcasting. Sri Lanka has hosted multiple World Cup events, and each event brings ICC host-city fees and ICC administration payments, even though local ticket revenue is sometimes offset by stadium operating costs. Recurring stadium costs have created debt, so SLC is careful not to over-invest in infrastructure.

Broadcasting Rights and Lanka Premier League

Deals with local and international broadcasters for home Tests against India, Australia, and England, and for Asian circuit tours involving Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the West Indies, constitute the main rights income. The Lanka Premier League brings local television and limited global digital rights, plus franchise sponsorship. However, the league is worth less than the PSL, BPL, or SA20.

The LPL began as an attempt to create a T20 league similar to the IPL and PSL. There are five franchise teams in the league, and some international players participate. However, the league hasn’t achieved the commercial scale of other regional T20 competitions.

Financial Struggles and Market Constraints

The board makes money from hosting international series, but the country’s political and economic problems make it difficult to adequately fund cricket. Broadcasting rights and sponsorships don’t generate as much revenue in smaller markets as in larger ones.

SLC’s ICC share is relatively small compared to major boards, but it remains vital because Sri Lanka’s commercial market is constrained.

9. Cricket West Indies (CWI) – $17 million / β‚Ή142 crore

Cricket West Indies receives most of its $17 million from the Caribbean Premier League and ICC distributions. The CPL features teams from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, St. Lucia, and other Caribbean islands. Every year, during July and August, matches are held at different venues across the competition.

Broadcasting and Sponsorship

Caribbean-based leagues like the Caribbean Premier League attract broadcasters and sponsors mainly targeting overseas buyers in India, the UK, and Canada. CWI receives revenue share and central production fee arrangements from franchises participating in the league.

West Indies’ main financial support has historically come from ICC escalator-type distribution and World Cup-time inflows. As a full member, CWI depends significantly on ICC revenue to maintain operations across multiple island nations.

Operational Challenges

CWI runs cricket across several island nations, which creates unique operational challenges. Travel costs between islands add significantly to total expenses. While running regional and international programs, the board works with different cricket associations in each territory, making coordination complex and expensive.

Hosting strong teams like India, England, Australia, and South Africa brings television rights in the West Indies and abroad, premium ticket and stadium-lease revenue, and sponsor activations around big-tour brands. After the West Indies cricket team declined from its dominant position in the 1990s, the sport’s popularity across the region fell.

The CPL helped revive interest and generate revenue for CWI through broadcasting deals and renewed fan engagement. Remarkably, CWI flipped a roughly $21 million deficit in 2021 into a $46 million surplus by 2024, thanks largely to India, Australia, and England tours combined with fresh sponsorship deals. The board needs ICC distributions to keep cricket going throughout the Caribbean region.

10. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) – $11 million / β‚Ή92 crore

New Zealand Cricket is valued at $11 million, making it the 10th-most-valuable cricket board. NZC earns from home series television rights, sold mainly to local and UK/Australian platforms.

Recent estimates indicate about 58-60 million in annual income (ICC share distributions).

ICC Revenue Dependency

The NZC, being a full member, is funded by the ICC Future Tours Programme, but it is not as large as that of CA, ECB, or BCCI. This makes NZC more sensitive to tour scheduling and event matching, as any interference could cost the company significant income.

The T20 competition is New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition, known as the Super Smash, which receives domestic television and sponsorship income. Franchises also provide exposure on the sponsor boards and fees on title rights, which provide small yet consistent sources of revenue. Membership-type structures for cricket clubs and Test series tickets for games against England and Australia, as well as ODIs, generate some small yet consistent revenue.

Market of Broadcasts and Effectiveness.

The broadcasting transactions with Sky Sport New Zealand generate income. The per-capita interest in cricket and the ICC’s funding dependency on New Zealand are both very high, demonstrating the board’s efficiency in delivering results despite financial constraints.

Cricket Boards and the way they earn money.

Over the last 10 years, broadcasting rights have become the largest source of revenue for cricket boards. Firms spend billions to have exclusive rights to air matches both on television and digital.

India’s market size and viewership numbers drive the highest broadcasting valuations. When you look at contract values in different countries, it’s clear that the wealth of the board and the wealth of the players are linked.

T20 leagues have completely changed how cricket makes money, especially with competitions now running in the US. The IPL, BBL, PSL, and CPL, plus several newer leagues, mean cricket fans can watch matches pretty much all year. Owners invest heavily in their franchises.

Major companies that target cricket fans pay huge sums to place their logos in these leagues.

International Tours and International Agreements.

Revenue from international tours is generated through ticket sales, local television, and hosting charges. Boards enter into bilateral series contracts, which involve revenue-sharing deals.
