The 20th match of IPL 2026 resulted in Royal Challengers Bengaluru beating the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs on 12 April 2026, at Wankhede Stadium.
However, the bigger news was the injury scares of two of the biggest names in Indian cricket: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma Retires Hurt With Hamstring Problem
Rohit Sharma, who was beginning the chase of 241 by MI, began to feel uncomfortable only after four balls in the fifth over. The physio treated him before the sixth over, but the pain did not relieve.
He strolled off a bit later with his hamstring tied up, having scored 19 out of 13 balls. He was replaced in the middle by Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit failed to come back to bat, and MI lost by 18 runs.
This is a big problem for the Mumbai Indians. MI are already suffering this season because they are ranked number eight after four games and have only won one game, and the fact that Rohit has been injured by a hamstring injury is only worsening their problems as they prepare to play their next games.
Virat Kohli Suffers Ankle Injury After Half-Century
On the RCB side, Kohli was seen receiving treatment on his left leg five balls into the tenth over of RCB’s innings when he was hitting 35 out of 25 balls. He went on to score 50 off 38 balls before being sent back by Hardik Pandya in the 15th over.
But Kohli did not return to the field when MI was on the run. It was a possible ankle injury, which was suggested by commentator Simon Doull. As his replacement, Jacob Bethell was seen playing. The RCB management did not consider using the Impact Player Substitution option in the case of Kohli.
The captain of RCB, Rajat Patidar, was asked about the state of Kohli in the post-match presentation. “I don’t know, but I feel he’s okay right now,” Patidar said, without giving any particular report.
Frustration Before the Injury by Kohli.

Kohli was seen to be disappointed with his performance, even though he scored a fifty. He was the second-lowest striker in the RCB batters and was dismissed by Hardik Pandya. After walking back, he tossed his gloves and helmet into the dugout.
But the rest of the RCB batting lineup made up for the game. Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, and Tim David all had a strike rate of 200+, contributing to RCBβs 240/4 in 20 overs.

RCB’s Win, MI’s Woes Continue
Unbeaten 71 off 31 balls by Sherfane Rutherford kept MI in the hunt during their chase, but it was not enough. RCB held back 240 to win by 18 runs and climb to third spot on the points table with three wins in four games.
For MI, it was the third loss in a row. Jasprit Bumrah failed to get a wicket in his fourth straight IPL game, but he was the most economical bowler, conceding 35 in four overs.
The updates regarding the injuries of Rohit and Kohli will be revealed in the next few days. The season may unfold differently for the two teams depending on the fitness of their senior-most players.
