India left-arm spinner Shree Charani has retained the top spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings and reached the highest rating any bowler has recorded in the format. Her peak of 817 points followed India’s Women’s Asia Cup title and the gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan.
Shree Charani Breaks Megan Schutt’s T20I Rating Points Record
Charani’s 817 points go past the previous best of 806, which Australia’s Megan Schutt set in November 2018. The new mark appeared in the latest ICC rankings update, published on September 29.
She took 12 wickets at the Asia Cup, including 4 for 20 in the final against Sri Lanka, where India won by 72 runs to lift the trophy for the eighth time. At the Asian Games, she took career-best figures of 4 for 10 against hosts Japan in the quarter-final, which sent India into the semi-finals. She then took two wickets in the gold-medal match on September 22, which India won by 147 runs against Sri Lanka. That match carried her rating to its peak.
Across both tournaments, Charani took 20 wickets in eight innings at an average of 4.85 and an economy rate of 3.3. She claimed two four-wicket hauls in that period.
