Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill achieved another major career milestone during his side’s dominant 89-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 on Thursday.
Gill surpassed Sachin Tendulkar on the list of Indian batters with the most runs as captain in T20 cricket. The Gujarat Titans skipper reached 1,934 runs as captain in the format, going past Tendulkar’s tally of 1,871 runs.
The list continues to be led by Virat Kohli, who scored 6,564 runs as captain in T20 cricket across 193 innings.
Gill reached the landmark during his aggressive 64-run knock off 37 balls against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His innings helped Gujarat Titans post a massive total of 229 for 4 in their final league-stage match.

The 26-year-old also completed 6,000 runs in T20 cricket during the match. Gill became the second-fastest Indian batter to reach the mark, achieving the feat in 185 innings.
Only KL Rahul reached the milestone faster among Indians, taking 166 innings. Overall, former West Indies batter Chris Gayle remains the fastest player to 6,000 T20 runs, having achieved it in 162 innings.
Gill also entered another elite list by becoming only the fourth player in men’s T20 cricket to score more than 6,000 runs before turning 27. The other players on the list are Babar Azam, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Will Jacks.
Across 185 innings in T20 cricket, Gill has now scored 6,028 runs, including six centuries and 38 half-centuries. His highest score in the format remains 129.
Gujarat Titans Seal Top-Two Finish
Gill’s innings laid the foundation for Gujarat Titans’ commanding win over Chennai Super Kings. Opener Sai Sudharsan continued his excellent form with 84 runs off 53 deliveries, while Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 from 27 balls.
The opening partnership between Gill and Sai Sudharsan once again proved decisive for Gujarat Titans. Their stand marked the seventh-century partnership between the pair in IPL history.
Chasing 230, Chennai Super Kings collapsed early and lost five wickets inside seven overs. Shivam Dube provided brief resistance with a quick 47 off 17 balls, but the visitors were eventually bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs.
Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball for Gujarat Titans, taking 3 for 26, while Rashid Khan claimed 3 for 18.
The victory confirmed Gujarat Titans’ place in the top two of the IPL 2026 points table heading into the playoffs.
