On April 29, Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Mumbai Indians by six wickets in a game that ended eight balls early with SRH needing to chase 244. Travis Head (76* off 30 balls) and an unbeaten Heinrich Klaasen (65* off 30 balls) helped SRH win their fifth match in a row in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians, despite Ryan Rickelton’s sensational 123 not out in 55 balls, lost their sixth match this season and are currently placed ninth in the points table.
Rickelton’s Record Knock Not Enough for MI
Mumbai Indians decided to bat first — the first time they have done so in 22 games at Wankhede — and put up 243 for 5 in 20 overs, their highest-ever first-innings score in the IPL.
Rickelton was outstanding throughout his innings. He added 93 runs for the first wicket with Will Jacks, who scored 46 off 22 balls before being dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy to the wicketkeeper. Rickelton then went on to accelerate. He completed a half-century in 23 balls and went on to score a maiden IPL century in 44 balls, the quickest by any Mumbai Indians batter. He went at a blistering pace against all bowlers, finishing with 10 fours and 8 sixes.
Hardik Pandya chipped in with 31 off 15, but the final overs hurt MI. Malina bowled an economical end, finishing with 1 for 29 off four overs. MI managed to score 41 runs in the last four overs, making the target look unachievable, but something that SRH could handle.
Abhishek and Head Decimate MI in Powerplay
Sunrisers Hyderabad came out swinging from ball one. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 129 for the first wicket, with 92 in the powerplay (first six overs). Head, who escaped the clutches of Trent Boult, was extremely vicious. He had fifty in 20 balls. Bumrah conceded 28 runs in his first two overs, Boult 29 in his. By the end of the powerplay, SRH were scoring more than 15 an over.
AM Ghazanfar opened the door for MI, bowling out Abhishek for 45 and then bowling out Ishan Kishan on the first ball. Hardik Pandya dismissed Head for 76 soon after, leaving SRH at 133 for 3. MI were back in the game, only for a short time.

Klaasen and Arora Shut the Door on MI
The MI resurgence was short-lived. Klaasen immediately went after Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar in consecutive overs to reduce the required run-rate. He scored his half-century in 22 balls and remained cool in the hunt’s final stages. Salil Arora then completely took the game out of Bumrah’s hands, scoring 30 from 10 balls, including a straight six without looking. Bumrah could not deliver a wicket and went for 54 in four overs.
SRH ended on 249 for 4, which is the highest successful run-chase in IPL history at Wankhede. This victory takes them to third in the IPL 2026 points table. MI remain ninth, looking for a breakthrough.
