Trinbago Knight Riders have retired Dwayne Bravo’s No. 47 jersey and made him the first player in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) history to receive the honour. The franchise made the announcement during a ceremony held before their CPL 2026 fixture against Jamaica Kingsmen in Port of Spain on Saturday night.
No TKR player will wear the number again. The move recognizes Bravo’s role in building the franchise into one of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history, both as a player and later as head coach.
Why TKR Retired Bravo’s Jersey
Venky Mysore, who is the CEO of the Knight Riders group, addressed the ceremony and explained the decision. He said Bravo’s contribution to the franchise and to the CPL could not be measured in simple terms.
Mysore added that retiring the No. 47 jersey ensures Bravo’s legacy stays tied to the team permanently, and that no other player fits the distinction of being the first to receive this recognition in CPL history. The ceremony took place on the field ahead of the match, with the current TKR squad and support staff present to mark the occasion.
Bravo currently serves as head coach of TKR. It is a role he took on after retiring as a player. He first won the CPL title in 2015, when the franchise was still called Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. He went on to lift the trophy four more times, which took his tally to five titles overall. Two of those wins, in 2017 and 2018, came while he captained TKR. A sixth title arrived in 2021, though that one came while he led St Kitts and Nevis Patriots rather than TKR.
Across his playing career in the tournament, Bravo appeared in 107 CPL matches and picked up 129 wickets at an economy rate of 8.74. He last played in the competition in 2024, and he still ranks third on the tournament’s all-time wicket-taking list. He trails right behind Sunil Narine (139 wickets) and Imran Tahir (135).
Tributes From Teammates and Captains
Several of Bravo’s former teammates shared messages following the announcement. Nicholas Pooran, who is TKR’s current captain, called Bravo an inspiration and a role model in a video released by the franchise.
Pooran described him as a mentor figure to younger players in the squad and thanked him for the guidance he provided throughout their time together. Sunil Narine also paid tribute. He said Bravo had paved the way for a generation of young cricketers through his work ethic and competitive drive.
Kieron Pollard, who captained TKR to the title in 2020 with Bravo as part of the squad, thanked him for his personal support and for helping build a team culture focused on winning championships together.

What the Jersey Retirement Means for CPL
The retirement of Bravo’s No. 47 sets a precedent for the CPL. They have never permanently withdrawn a player’s number from circulation before. TKR’s decision puts Bravo among the small group of cricketers globally who have received similar honors from their franchises.
The gesture also reflects his continued involvement with the team as head coach, and extends his association with TKR well beyond his playing days. His jersey number will now remain out of use for the franchise going forward.
