Tristan Stubbs’ 52 Leads Southern Brave to Win Over Trent Rockets

Tristan Stubbs' 52 Powers Southern Brave Past Trent Rockets

Tristan Stubbs struck an unbeaten 52 off 28 balls to guide Southern Brave to a six-wicket victory over Trent Rockets at Trent Bridge on Monday, ending the hosts’ six-match winning run in The Hundred Men’s Competition 2026. Chasing 159, the Brave got home in 97 balls, with Stubbs finishing the match in style by hitting Lewis Gregory for six.

The result cost Trent Rockets automatic qualification for the Lord’s final on Sunday. Sam Billings’ side now needs Manchester Super Giants to beat Sunrisers Leeds at Emirates Old Trafford for the Rockets to hold onto their position and avoid Friday’s Eliminator. Stubbs, who was named Player of the Match, said the win offered some consolation after an inconsistent campaign for the Brave, who finished sixth in the table.

Stubbs and Stoinis Turn the Chase With Fourth-Wicket Stand

Southern Brave lost three quick wickets after a steady start but recovered through a match-defining stand between Stubbs and Marcus Stoinis. Jamie Smith and Moeen Ali had put on 40 without loss inside the first 25 balls before Craig Overton removed Smith through a sharp relay catch involving Finn Allen and Calvin Harrison. Harrison struck twice in his next over, dismissing Moeen off a caught-and-bowled chance and then bowling David Miller to leave the Brave at 78 for 3.

Stoinis walked in and changed the tempo immediately, hitting Harrison for two sixes and a four in his first three deliveries. He and Stubbs added 70 runs off just 41 balls for the fourth wicket, taking the game away from the Rockets. Stoinis fell for 46 off 25 balls, caught at extra-cover off Ben Sanderson after miscuing a slower ball, but by then the target was well within reach. Stubbs stayed unbeaten to finish the job, striking four fours and three sixes in his innings.

Trent Rockets were sent in to bat first after Southern Brave won the toss and chose to field. Ben Duckett, Finn Allen and Aneurin Donald all got starts but none carried on, and the Rockets slipped to 92 for 5. Mitchell Santner and Lewis Gregory then combined for an unbroken 66-run stand off 39 balls to lift the total to a competitive 158 for 5.

Santner, who scored a maiden Hundred half-century in the Rockets’ previous match against MI London, remained not out on 35 off 23 balls. Gregory supported him well, finishing on 28 off 18 balls and closing the innings with back-to-back boundaries. The pair’s efforts gave the total some substance, though it ultimately proved short against a fluent Brave chase. What the Result Means for the Knockout Race

Southern Brave’s win adds fresh pressure to the top of The Hundred Men’s standings. Trent Rockets remain in a strong position but can no longer guarantee a straight route to the final.

A win for Manchester Super Giants over Sunrisers Leeds would push Sunrisers above the Rockets on net run-rate, forcing Billings’ side into the Eliminator instead. Speaking after the match, Stubbs admitted the Brave’s campaign had been frustrating overall but said the team had shown, in the end, what it was capable of. “We gave it our all for the month but in the first three games we lost a couple of close ones and then it’s hard to get momentum,” he said.
