Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by 7 wickets in Match 7 of the Women’s Premier League 2026 on Tuesday. Shafali Verma won Player of the Match for her all-round performance at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Chasing 155 runs, Delhi finished at 158/3 in 20 overs. Laura Wolvaardt hit the winning four off the last ball bowled by Sophie Ecclestone. UP Warriorz scored 154/8 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first.
Shafali Verma scored 36 runs off 32 balls with six fours and took 2 wickets for 16 runs. Lizelle Lee top-scored with 67 off 44 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. The opening pair put on 94 runs in 11 overs to set up the chase.

Lee and Shafali gave Delhi a strong start after captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to bowl. The opening partnership made the target look easy. Lee played shots all around the ground before getting out in the 12th over.
Shafali followed soon after, but Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues kept the chase on track. Wolvaardt made 25 off 24 balls while Rodrigues added 21 off 14. Delhi needed six runs from the final over.
The scores were level after a leg bye following a failed LBW review. Wolvaardt then hit a boundary off the next ball to seal the win. Delhi opened their points account after losing earlier matches, including their defeat against the Gujarat Giants earlier in the tournament. They now sit fourth in the table.
UP Warriorz struggled to post a big total on a batting-friendly pitch. Captain Meg Lanning top-scored with 54 runs off 38 balls. Harleen Deol made 47 off 36 balls before being retired out in the 17th over. Coach Abhishek Nayar made the call to retire her.
The decision backfired as UP lost wickets quickly after that. Phoebe Litchfield scored 27, but no other batter could push the total past 160. In the death overs, the team didn’t have any boundaries, so they ended up with a bad score.
Shafali bowled well in the middle overs and took two important wickets. Her 2/16 put a lot of pressure on the UP batting order. Marizanne Kapp also took 2 wickets for 24 runs. Shree Charani, Sneh Rana, and Nandini Sharma picked up one wicket each.
Deepti Sharma fought back with the ball for UP Warriorz, taking 2 wickets for 26 runs. Asha Sobhana got one wicket for 20 runs. Sophie Ecclestone bowled the final over but could not defend six runs.
This was Delhi’s first win of WPL 2026. The victory will give them confidence going into their next matches. UP Warriorz have now lost three games in a row and are placed fifth in the standings.
Shafali’s all-round show proved the difference between the two teams. Her batting gave Delhi a quick start while her bowling broke partnerships. Lee’s knock at the top made sure the chase never looked difficult. The match between RCB Women and Mumbai Indians Women also provided exciting cricket earlier in the tournament.
