The battle for the World Cup just seems to be heating up pretty quickly. A total of 16 UEFA nations will compete at the 48-team FIFA World Cup of 2026. The European Qualifiers will start in March 2025 and will last for almost a year.

Format Of FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers
The format for the FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers seems to be very interesting. There are 12 groups, with 4 and 5 teams in each group on 13 Dec 2024 in Zurich.
These teams were selected in March 2025, suggesting there is room for quick selection. There will be home and away matches as per the traditional format, with all teams playing each other twice. The group games will conclude by November 2025, the play-offs are scheduled for March 2026.
The group winners qualify directly for the WorldCup, whereas, the second placed team will advance to play-offs alongside four best ranked UEFA Nations League quarter-final action 2024/25 winners, who didn’t finish their European Qualifiers group stage.

Important Dates For World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers
Being a fan of the World Cup and especially the European qualifiers, there are some critical dates that you need to know.
The group stage draw was done by 13th December 2024. Meanwhile, the group stage match dates will come through between March and November of 2025.
As the group stage matches get over, fans will be able to watch the playoff games from 26 to 31st March 2026. The battle intensifies here.
