A nation enduring over two years of war has been left heartbroken once again, as Oman brought an end to Palestine’s World Cup dream — a dream that faded as swiftly as the match ended in a draw.
Palestine was doing well in the World Cup Qualifier until Oman came from behind to score the all-critical goal. As the full-time whistle blew with the score of 1-1, it broke dreams. Let’s dig deep.
Oman Ended Palestine’s First World Cup Appearance
As heartbreaking as it may sound, Palestine’s World Cup dream has come to an end with a 1-1 finish in the World Cup Qualifier game. With a war going on in Palestine, they had to play games at a neutral venue, and it didn’t turn out well.
Starting the game, Palestine scored and took the lead in the 49th minute with the help of Oday Kharoub. He headed a ball from Adam Kaied to the top corner. Things were looking good for Palestine when Oman was reduced to 10 men. Harib Al Saadi was given a yellow card twice, which pushed him out of the game.
But the injury time penalty killed all the hopes. A foul was committed on Muhsen Al Ghassani, which turned into a penalty. A calm penalty from Issam Al Sabhi meant that Oman would have the equaliser late in the game.
Through this win, Oman will finish 4th in the group while Palestine will be knocked out. Oman moves to the next phase of qualification for the World Cup.

Palestine Football Association Complains About Late Penalty
The Palestine Football Association didn’t seem too happy with the late penalty call. Based on that, the board has filed an official complaint to FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.
The statement claims that after watching the whole game, the footage, and everything in between, it seems the refereeing criteria weren’t good and it didn’t meet the criteria needed.
This decision was further unfair to our team, and PFA has also called for a comprehensive investigation. Further, there might be a review of all refereeing procedures while they check the authenticity.

[What Next] Oman Progress Further
Interestingly, neither Oman nor Palestine has ever been part of World Cup football. Although the hopes of Palestine have ended, Oman has a chance.
Qualifying for the next round, they will be part of a three-nation group in October, whereby they will face either Indonesia, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE.
If Oman wins their section, they will go to the World Cup directly. Such an outstanding opportunity.
