Bengaluru FC is preparing for a fresh challenge in the upcoming Indian Super League season, and this time, they’re fully focused on one goal – the ISL title. After a dramatic 2024–25 season that saw them fall just short in the final, assistant coach Renedy Singh believes the team is more determined than ever.

The Blues had a remarkable turnaround last season. Their path from placing 10th the year before to moving up to fourth place was quite remarkable. They gave the team new energy, discipline, and direction under new head coach Gerard Zaragoza.

They defeated FC Goa in the semifinals and eliminated Mumbai City FC in the playoffs, putting up impressive performances. But the dream of lifting the ISL title slipped away in a hard-fought final loss to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Still, Singh insists the defeat has only strengthened their focus.

“We reached the final this season but fell short. Our aim now is to win the ISL title. That’s the target, and we’re already working towards it,” he toldThe Assam Tribune.

Sunil Chhetri: Still Leading the Charge at 40

A huge part of Bengaluru’s strong campaign was their iconic captain, Sunil Chhetri. At 40, he continues to defy expectations. Scoring 14 goals in one season is impressive for any forward — but especially for someone nearing the end of his career.

Chhetri finished as the joint second-highest scorer and the top Indian goal-scorer of the season. His leadership on the pitch remains just as important as his goals.

Renedy Singh pointed out Chhetri’s lasting influence. He said, “Sunil is still scoring goals at 40. Not many Indian players are doing that. Even if he can’t play the full 90 minutes, those 30–40 minutes he plays can still be decisive.”

His experience will be vital as India enters the next stage of their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, and for Bengaluru FC as they make another push for the ISL title.

Khalid Jamil’s Rise: A Beacon for Indian Coaches

While Singh is focused on Bengaluru FC’s quest for the ISL title, he also praised another figure making headlines — Khalid Jamil, the only Indian head coach in the ISL this season.

Jamil led Jamshedpur FC to the semi-finals and a runners-up finish in the Kalinga Super Cup. His journey from Mumbai FC to leading Aizawl FC to I-League success, and now with Jamshedpur, is inspiring.

“Khalid has done a commendable job. His journey is inspiring and will surely motivate more Indian coaches to dream big,” Singh noted.

His rise reflects the broader growth of Indian football, not just among players but coaches too. And as the league evolves, competition for the ISL title will only get tougher.
