Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Wins Premier League Player of the Season for Second Time

Mohamed Salah has once again been named the 2024/25 Premier League ‘Player of the Season.’ This is the second time he has won the award, and he fully earned it. 

The 32-year-old Liverpool forward had an incredible season and helped his team win the Premier League title with four games left to play.

Salah scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists this season, guiding Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot to a dominant title win. This set a new record for the most in a 38-game Premier League season. Only Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole have done better, with 47 contributions each, but that was in a longer 42-game season.

In addition to leading the goal charts, Salah also finished the season with the most assists, six more than any other player. His performances not only helped Liverpool secure the title early but also kept him ahead in the Golden Boot race. He enters the final matchday five goals clear of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Salah’s impact goes beyond this season. He became the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history, surpassing Sergio Aguero. 

With 185 Premier League goals, he now ranks fifth all-time. He also moved up to third on Liverpool’s all-time scorers list with 244 goals across all competitions.

Mohamed Salah Joins Elite List of Premier League Legends

This is Salah’s second Premier League Player of the Season award, having first won the accolade in 2017/18. He now joins an elite group of two-time winners, including Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic, and Kevin De Bruyne. No player has ever won the award three times.

Salah’s 2024/25 campaign positions him for a potential clean sweep of individual honors. He is on course to become the first player to win the Golden Boot, Golden Playmaker, and Player of the Season awards in a single season. 

Earlier this month, he was also voted the Football Writers’ Association Men’s ‘Player of the Year’ for a record-tying third time.

The Premier League award was decided by a combination of public voting and a panel of football experts. 

Salah topped a shortlist that included teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, alongside other standout performers such as Declan Rice and Alexander Isak. His win ends Manchester City’s five-year streak of producing Player of the Season winners.

As Salah continues to break records at 32, he remains a central figure in Liverpool’s success and a standout in Premier League history. With a new contract in place, he will aim to become the first player to win the award three times in future seasons.
