India has yet again made another history in the sports world as Ayush Shetty has won the maiden US Open 2025 title and become the first Indian shuttler to win a title this season. In the final against Canada’s Brian Yang, Shetty clinched his maiden title on the BWF World Tour on Sunday with straight sets of 21-18, 21-13.
Similarly, on the women’s side, Tanvi Sharma ended her US Open 2025 campaign as a runner-up.

In the finals of the US Open 2025 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the 20-year-old shuttler, Ayush Shetty, etched his name in the history books as he won the first-ever title on the BWF World Tour on Sunday. Ayush fulfilled his dream with a confident run as he shattered the opponent, Brian Yang, with a commanding score of 21-18, 21-13, keeping the Canadian shuttler on the back foot from the very beginning of the match.
Currently ranked 34th in the world, Ayush also ended India’s long wait for a men’s singles title since Lakshya Sen’s victory at the Canada Open in 2023.
Before the final between Ayush and Yang, Ayush won in a close battle against Chou Tien-Chen by 21-23, 21-15, 21-14 in the semifinal, and it was an expectation for millions of Indians worldwide. The final was about to be interesting since both players had an incredible campaign throughout the tournament. Ayush Shetty, who is built like Viktor Axelsen, started strong from the moment the game started. However, the Canadians’ strong Brian Yang did not back down from the game and leveled the match with the score of 6-6.

Similarly, in the women’s singles category, the 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma also had an impressive campaign in the US Open 2025. Despite having an incredible match throughout the tournament, especially in the semifinal against Polina Buhrova, where she dominated the game by 21-14, 21-16, Sharma fell short in the final against World No. 21 Zhang, but she became the youngest Indian ever to reach a final on the BWF World Tour.
In the final against Zhang, Tanvi did not have a great start since she struggled and was completely dominated by Zhang. In the first set of the game, Zhang took a big lead and closed the set with 21-11.
However, in the second set of the game, Tanvi bounced back and played some great shots, taking an early lead. She stayed focused and won the second, leading by a huge margin of 21-16.
In the deciding set, Tanvi visibly looked tired and made many mistakes. Taking full advantage, Zhang took control of the game and finished the set by winning the game with a score of 21-10.
