India’s Juniors Tanvi Sharma and Unnati Hooda qualified for the quarterfinals of the girls’ singles event in the BWF World Junior Championship 2025 in Guwahati on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ singles competition, Ganana Dattu, the lone Indian, is still alive in the boys’ singles competition, and the mixed doubles of Bhavya Chhabra and Vishakha Toppo made it to the final eight of the BWF World Junior Championships 2025.

With the solid performances at the National Centre of Excellence, Top seed Tanvi Sharma defeated Oei Winarto of Indonesia with the score of 15-12, 15-7 to book her place in the pre-quarterfinals of the girls’ single badminton competition in the BWF World Junior Championships 2025
Junior world no. 1 Tanvi Sharma was the first to step on the court on Wednesday, and she was confident and in complete control of the match, as she opened up a 9-4 lead against Winarto to set up her match against China.
Meanwhile, eighth seed Unnati defeated Alice Wang from the USA with the score line of 15-8, 15-5, setting up her next match against Malaysia, and Rakshitha came from a game down to beat Singapore’s Aaliyah Zakaria 11-15, 15-5, 15-8 to progress
Top seed Tanvi dominated China’s Sun Li Yuan in a 15-8, 15-5 win at the National Centre of Excellence, while eighth seed Unnati recovered from a bad start to beat Carine Tee of Malaysia 15-10, 15-7.
In the quarter-finals of the BWF World Junior Championships 2025,
Tanvi will be facing Japan’s Saki Matsumoto, while Unnati will face the second seed, Anyapat Phichitpreechasak of Thailand.

Indian Men’s in the BWF world junior championships 2025
In the boys’ singles of the BWF World Junior Championships 2025, 17-year-old Gnana Dattu, who was playing his first junior badminton worlds, defeated eighth seed Garret Tan from the USA with the scoreline of 15-12 and 15-13.
“Though he (Tan) has more experience than I because he has played a few senior tournaments, I was confident that I could beat him if I could play at my best, and I am happy that I could do that today,” Gnana Dattu said after the match.
On the other hand, Bhavya and Toppo made a comeback after losing the opening game to beat the third-seeded French combination of Thibault Gardon and Agathe Cuevas 12-15, 15-11, 15-12.
In the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Junior Championships 2025, Bhavya and Vishakha will be facing Chinese Taipei’s Hung Bing Fu and Chou Yun An, who defeated the Republic of Korea’s Kim Tae Hyun and Moon In Seo 15-9, 15-11
“While trailing at 8-11, the coach told us to attack more and play soft at the net to ensure that we get to attack more. We simply listened to the coach as it was easier to attack from this side,” Bhavya said after the match.
