India Open 2026 Badminton to Be Held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from January 13 to 18

There is a buzz that New Delhi is gearing up to host the India Open 2026 badminton, a marquee Super 750 event that will be played in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from January 13-18. Organizers vow to ensure a larger venue that will accommodate over 8,000 fans and a USD 950,000 pool of prizes following criticism of the previous conditions.

Featuring stars like An Se-young, PV Sindhu, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and Lakshya Sen, this week-long showdown will double as a dress rehearsal for the World Championships.

India Open 2026 Badminton Returns to Bigger Venue

The India Open 2026 badminton tournament, which will be hosted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) under the umbrella of the BWF, will be a significant development in the event. It will be held in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the first time in the stadium, with a capacity of over 8,000, compared to the 4,000 in the former event.

This change addresses criticism of playing conditions in past editions and aligns with India’s ambition to stage the 2026 World Championships later in the year. Other than elite badminton, the organizers will ensure that they have a better spectator experience. The change to the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium would offer better seating and views of the India Open 2026 badminton.

With the tournament serving as a test run for the World Championships later in the year, logistical operations, lighting, court arrangements, broadcast infrastructure and spectator flows will be under scrutiny.

Besides this, BAI general secretary Sanjay Mishra gave the reasoning behind the decision: the bigger stadium will enable us to host many more people and provide a better on-ground experience to both the players and the fans. As India is the host of the World Championships in August 2026, India Open 2026 is an experiment with facilities and logistics, he commented.

The Super 750 tournament, part of the BWF World Tour, carries a significant purse. The India Open 2026 badminton event is one of the richest badminton events on the calendar, with a total prize fund of USD 950,000. The singles winners are offered a prize of USD 66,500, whilst the doubles winners are offered USD 70,300.

Doubles$70,300$33,250$13,300$5,937.50$3,087.50$950

Along with this, the winners can earn up to 11,000 ranking points, while the runner-up can take away 9,350 points following the conclusion of the tournament. Such facts and rewards justify why the best players in the sport are so keen on the India Open 2026 badminton schedules.

The BAI has focused on professionalism to promote the prestige of the event. The partnership with ticketing service provider Ticmint will also come with safe online payment methods and match updates in real-time to facilitate entry.

The phased ticketing of the tournament will have the ability to provide up to 50 percent discount on the early-bird tickets before December 31, and the normal price of the ticket will be between Rs 400 and 1,750, respectively.

The tournament will definitely attract world and Olympic champions in the world, as An Se-young defends her crown, PV Sindhu pursues a home title, and the Indian doubles duo of Satwik and Chirag seek to entertain the audience.

Young talents Unnati Hooda and Ayush Shetty also give an idea of the talent pipeline in India in the future, with Lakshya Sen hoping that domestic backing will give him an edge over proven champions like Viktor Axelsen and Kunlavut Vitidsarn on the men’s singles side.

Since it is a trial of the 2026 World Championships, the tournament will also demonstrate to the world the preparedness of New Delhi to host the best of the best in sport. The India Open 2026 badminton is a must-watch event in the sporting calendar from January 13-18, whether as a die-hard fan or a casual spectator.
