In the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2026 in New Delhi, Jonatan Christie of Indonesia reached the men’s singles final with a straight-games win in a calm manner over Loh Kean Yew, whilst world number one An Se Young and China’s Wang Zhi Yi made it to the final of the women’s singles after a contrasting semifinal win.

The BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament again underlined the intensity of professional badminton at the global level as badminton players representing various countries were involved in the final game, and none of the Indian shuttlers made it to the singles finals.

Jonatan Christie Holds Nerve to Reach India Open 2026 Final

Jonatan Christie produced a calm and controlled performance to defeat Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles semifinal at the India Open 2026 in New Delhi. The Indonesian shuttler emerged victorious in the straight games in a match that could have challenged even the strongest mind and patience, thus making his way to the final of the Super 750 tournament.

The opening game was intense, with Loh Kean Yew making good use of his speed and sharp angles to establish an early advantage. In the short term, it seemed like Christie felt pressured and could not get rhythm. The Indonesian, however, soon varied his method. He did not rush points, but instead slowed down the game and concentrated on longer rallies.

The tide began to turn. Christie started to gain some decisive exchanges, making his opponent make mistakes and narrowing the score gap. His six runs in the second half of the opening game were decisive, as he won the opener 21-18.

The second game followed the same pattern. Loh again sought to assault early, but Christie was steady and composed. However, Christie’s experience emerged as the game went on. He remained stable during the final periods and won the game 22- 20 after an intense battle that took more than forty minutes.

With this victory, Christie extended his unbeaten record against Loh Kean Yew and booked a place in the men’s singles final, where he will face Lin Chun Yi of Chinese Taipei.

An Se Young Cruises Into Final With Clinical Performance

An Se Young, who is currently the top-ranked women’s badminton player, exhibited a dominant performance to reach the finals of the women’s singles in the ongoing India Open 2026 in New Delhi. With a semifinal with former world champion Ratchanok Intanon, the Korean shuttler dominated the game throughout and emerged a straight-game victor of 21-11, 21-7 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

Since the first rallies, An Se Young appeared sharp and focused. She exploited her movement and coverage of the court to place Intanon under constant pressure, where the shuttle is placed precisely and pushes her opponent into awkward positions. Over the course of the first game, An gradually gained strength and created a strong defense and transformed it into an offensive retaliation and creating a strong lead without unnecessary risks.

During the second match, Intanon attempted to alter the pace and even momentarily kept pace with An during the initial exchanges. Se Young answered with another rush of intensity, though, and with another run of decisive points, to draw away. She stayed focused until the last rally, and she ended the match with authority and reiterating her good shape as she took a step towards the title.

Wang Zhi Yi Edges Chen Yu Fei to Book Final Spot

Wang Zhi Yi made it to the women’s singles final after a tough semifinal match with another Chinese, Chen Yu Fei. This was a close match compared to the other semifinal, with both sides involved in long rallies and maneuvering before Wang emerged as a winner by 21-15 and 23-21.

Wang used patience and restrained aggression to gain an advantage in the opening game. She also maintained deep and consistent shots and prevented Chen from attacking opportunities, and built pressure. This strategy worked because Wang enjoyed a consistent advantage and won the first game without allowing her opponent to establish a permanent flow.

In the second match, Chen elevated her level and tested Wang to the maximum. The match was close with both sides alternating leads, and the drama increasing with each shot. The big point moments saw Wang showing clear calmness and clarity in her shot decision-making to keep the game open, and in the closing moments of the game, she played high-risk shots to secure her place in the final.
