HS Prannoy overcame both a tough opponent and unusual challenges at the Malaysia Open 2025, defeating Brian Yang in a grueling match.
This encounter on 8th January had its start on Tuesday but was initially halted due to the leakage of water from the rooftop of the stadium, where matches were being staged.
Resuming on Wednesday, Prannoy overcame the mental and physical disruption that saw him lose his momentum against Kim. After losing the second game 17-21, Prannoy staged a recovery act in the last game to fetch a 21-12, 17-21, 21-15 victory.
With the win, Prannoy sailed into the pre-quarterfinals against China’s seventh-seed Shi Feng Li, who made light of the task against Priyanshu Rajawat, defeating him in straight games.

Malvika Bansod’s Commanding Win Over Local Favorite
Malvika Bansod earned a dominant victory over Goh Jin Wei, the local favorite, at the Malaysia Open 2025.
She played a flawless game, winning 21-15, 21-16 in just 45 minutes, proof that she is at the top of her game as the domination in the pace of the game was completely hers.
The win helped Bansod enter the pre-quarterfinals stage. She will now face the winner of the next match between China’s Yue Han and South Korea’s Yu Po Pai.
Mixed Doubles Success: Crasto/Kapila and Sathish/Aadya Shine
In the Malaysia Open 2025, India’s mixed doubles pairs delivered impressive performances with Tanisha Crasto/Dhruv Kapila and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath both advancing to the pre-quarterfinals.

Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda faced an early exit at the Malaysia Open 2025 in the women’s doubles category. The Indian duo was defeated by Thailand’s Benyapa and Nuntakarn Aimsaard in straight games, 17-21, 10-21.
Despite a strong start, the Indian pair struggled to match the intensity and precision of their Thai opponents, who dominated the match from the beginning. The loss ended Rutaparna and Swetaparna’s run in the tournament at an early stage.
