India Badminton faced mixed results during the Indonesia Masters 2025. PV Sindhu’s defeat by the lower-ranked Nguyen Thuy Linh was the most shocking highlight of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen and mixed doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila impressed with their respective wins, keeping the hopes alive for India in the tournament.
Sindhu’s Defeat and Lakshya’s Triumph
In a shocking turn of events, PV Sindhu was defeated by Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh in the first round of the Indonesia Masters 2025. PV Sindhu is ranked 12th in the women’s singles badminton, while Nguyen Thuy Linh is ranked at number 32 globally.
Although Sindhu was leading 20-14 in the first game, she lost by 22-20 and 21-12 in the interval of 37 minutes. This was Sindhu’s first loss against Nguyen in three head-to-head matches.
Lakshya Sen defeated Japan’s Takuma Obayashi in order to advance to the round of 16 of the BWF Super 500. Lakshya Sen is ranked number 10 in the world, while Obayashi is in the 37th position.
Lakshya thrashed Obayashi by 21-19, 21-14 at the BWF Super 500 tournament. The match lasted for about 39 minutes. This win is a significant milestone for Indian badminton and Lakshya Sen, who is considered the poster boy of Indian badminton.

Mixed Doubles: Pair Crasto and Kapila Shine
The Mixed Double also saw Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila progressing to the round of 16, further solidifying India Badminton on the international stage.
They defeated local favorites Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil in straight games of 21-18 and 21-14.
Moving forward to the quarter-finals, they will face Malaysia’s duo Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin.
