PV Sindhu reaches the pre-quarterfinals of the Singapore Badminton Open 2025 after her astounding performance in the first round. Coming into the tournament with 4 back to back first first-round defeats in other tournaments, Sindhu has finally broken the opening round jinx.
The women’s singles event for Sindhu has been a good one, and it feels like this particular tournament is different.

PV Sindhu Defeats Wen Yu Zhang
According to the latest BWF badminton rankings, Sindhu had dropped down to 17th place.
Right before the start of the game against Wen Yu Zhang, not a lot of fans gave her the chance. But PV had other ideas altogether.
PV Sindhu reaches the pre-quarterfinals of the Singapore Badminton Open by defeating the Canadian player in 31 minutes.
The final scoreline read 21-14 and 21-9. The game was played in two rounds, and Sindhu had proper domination over the Canadian player.
The Sindhu record against Wen is good. Last year, they clashed at the Spain Masters Badminton tournament, which Sindhu won. Sindhu hadn’t been in great form with first-round losses in recent times.
But she seems to be getting back to form with a great run in the India Open tournament, where she made the quarterfinals, and now the Singapore Badminton Open.

Indian Men’s Singles Results in Singapore Badminton Open 2025
Although PV Sindhu did well in the opening round, it was not the same for other Indian badminton players. HS Prannoy, the Indian star, defeated Rasmus Gemke of Denmark.
It was a tight game with a comeback win to show. Rasmus, the world 28, had dominated the first set with a 21-19 win, but the second and third rounds belonged to Prannoy.
The final scorecard read 21-19, 16-21, and 14-21. The overall game ran for 1 hour and 12 minutes. But that was it.
The likes of Priyanshu Rajawat lost the game against silver medalist Korai Naraoka. Even though the start was promising with a 14-21 win, Rajawat eventually gave up. The Japanese star player won the next two sets with 21-10 and 21-14.
Other Results in the Women’s Category
Besides, Sindhu and Prannoy’s results weren’t too good for the blue team. Malvika Bansod, who was rated highly, lost to world’s no. 9 Supanida Katethong in the very first round.
With the final scorecard being 14-21, 21-18, and 21-11, Bansod crashed out.
Another highly expected star, Anmol Kharb, also lost her game. Her game was drawn up against Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei from China, and it was a close encounter.
Even though Kharb lost in two rounds, the game seemed a close one. The first set ended with 21-11, while the second set was 24-22. It seemed like Kharb would make a comeback, but not to be.
