Sindhu’s Brave Fight Falls Short
All eyes were on P.V. Sindhu, India’s two-time Olympic medallist, as she took on Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, the world number four and third seed. Sindhu, who is now ranked 17th in the world, played hard in a match at the Badminton Asia Championship.
She dropped the first game 12–21, but she bounced back to win the second 21–16. She lost the third game 16–21, just missing out. The struggle, which lasted over an hour, was an actual test of her resolve, even though she was unable to achieve victory.

Men’s Singles Disappointment
The men’s singles result was, again, another letdown for Indian fans. One of India’s possible new stars, Priyanshu Rajawat, lost against Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in straight sets, 14-21, 17-21.
Despite Rajawat’s best efforts, he was unable to keep up with his higher-ranked opponent’s speed and razor-sharp consistency, which kept him behind the entire time.
Despite having a solid start against Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, Kiran George lost the first game 21-19 but was unable to maintain the momentum.
India’s run in the men’s singles at the Badminton Asia Championship came to an end when he dropped the following two games, 13-21 and 16-21.
A Ray of Hope in Mixed Doubles
While the singles results were underwhelming, the mixed doubles had a positive outcome. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto fought back from a game down to defeat Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan of Chinese Taipei. They won 12-21, 21-16, 21-18 in a nail-biting contest, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championship.
The fifth-seeded Hong Kong duo of Chun Man Tang and Ying Suet Tse will be their next opponent. Indian supporters will be hoping for another impressive performance in what looks to be a fascinating match.
Conversely, Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh’s campaign in the Badminton Asia Championship ended when they lost to the top seeds from China in a straight-up match.
