Following the pre-quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025, held under U-17 and U-15, India’s Lakshya Rajesh, Diksha Sudhakar, and Shaina Manimuthu have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, with Diksha outclassing Chinese Taipei’s Pin Hsuan Chiang 21-19, 21-15 to secure a last-eight berth in the U-17 segment, Lakshya won by 21-16 21-11 win over Korea’s Lee Yun Seo and top seed Manimuthu defeated China’s Li Man Lin 21-17 21-16 in the game held on Friday.

Indian Girls’ Domination at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025

The ongoing Badminton Asia Junior Championships have been an absolute platform to shine for athletes, especially for young Indian badminton stars, as they continue to outclass their respective opponents in the Badminton Asia U-15 and U-17 Championships in Chengdu, China.

Among the outstanding performances displayed by the Indian shuttlers in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, Lakshya Rajesh, Diksha Sudhakar, and Shaina Manimuthu have advanced to the quarterfinals, highlighting India’s dominance in junior badminton.

In the girls’ single category (Under-15) of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, the top seed Shaina Manimuthu did not disappoint her reputation as she beat the Chinese Li Man Lin 21-17, 21-16 in the straight games. The player based in Chennai was very much in control and was very confident throughout the match, as she was able to maintain a steady rhythm and reduce errors to a minimum. Shaina, who had previously registered a comfortably easy victory over the Jing Er Tan of Malaysia, has been one of the most stable performers in the tournament for India.

In the Under-17 girls singles, sixth seed Diksha Sudhakar gave another steady performance, defeating Chinese Taipei Pin Hsuan Chiang 21-19, 21-15 to reach the last eight. She was also able to manage critical situations in the game because of her calming ability when faced with pressure and smart tactics. This is not the first time Diksha has demonstrated her fighting spirit by making a comeback win over Luo Ya Ru of China, as this indicates her maturity and determination.

These two stars were not the only superpowers for India in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. In the U-17 girls singles, Lakshya Rajesh also made it to the quarter finals with a comfortable 21-16, 21-11 defeat over Lee Yun Seo of Korea, who was very consistent and intent on attacking. In the doubles of the girls, Aditi Deepak Raj and Ponnamma BV Vriddhi were gritty and, after being pushed to the setback, they battled back to beat Korea, Lee Yun Seo and Park Yoo Jeong 17-21, 21-15, 21-17.

The boys also performed well with Jagsher Singh Khangurra defeating Malaysia Winson Choh 21-12, 21-17 in the U-17 singles, and the doubles team of Charan Ram Thippana and Hari Krishna Veeramreddy defeated Japan’s Kosuke Shinohara and Hiroto Nakatsuka 21-14, 21-17.

Even though Wazir Singh was unsuccessful in securing a quarterfinal position of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships following a narrow three-set defeat by Indonesia’s Revan Adrilleo Saputra, his play did indicate the increasing level of India at the junior level.

Similarly, India dispatched a 36-member team to this year’s round with the hope that they can continue to perform as they did last year, and they have been able to win several medals, including gold. As Shaina, Diksha, and others move on in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, young Indian shuttlers have shown their ability, calmness, and fighting capability, which is a good indication of a bright future of badminton in India on the international front.

Bigyan Samele’s Perspective

Watching young Indian shuttlers dominating top players on the international stage is something that I, including all the Indians, feel proud about. With the Badminton Asia Junior Championships coming to an end, it was a crucial win for Lakshya Rajesh, Diksha Sudhakar, and Shaina Manimuthu to secure their respective position in the quarterfinals.

It would be interesting to see how the superwomen will perform in the upcoming matches of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, as they are expected to advance further and win a medal for the country. Along with them, the other athletes in the respective category will also be observed more as the tournament progresses into a competitive battleground.
