Young Boxers’ Silent Suffering Comes to Light
The silence of two minor girls, aged 12 and 13, was shattered on April 28, when they revealed to their parents the alleged abuse at the hands of their boxing coach, Chandrashekhar Joshi.
In addition, both students, enrolled in classes 7 and 8, had reportedly quit attending their boxing sessions, which raised red flags among their families.
Details of the Allegations Paint a Grim Picture
According to the police complaint, the coach allegedly touched the girls’ private parts, made obscene gestures, and threatened to kill them if they resisted or spoke out.
The incident reportedly took place within the district headquarters of Udham Singh Nagar in Rudrapur, a place now shadowed by fear and disbelief.
The victims’ fathers approached local authorities as soon as their daughters disclosed the coach’s actions. One father stated plainly, “They told us about the trainer’s inappropriate behaviour.”

Legal Action Underway as Investigation Progresses
Authorities have filed a case against Joshi under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 351(3) and 75(1).
“A case of molestation involving minors has come to light. We have initiated a probe,” confirmed the Circle Officer (CO) leading the investigation.
Trauma Casts a Long Shadow Over Promising Futures
Before this happened, the girls were portrayed as vibrant boxers, enthusiastic to discover and develop. But today, they are traumatised and deeply involved, their mental well-being harshly affected.
“They are now battling fear and stress instead of opponents in the ring,” said one of the parents, capturing the emotional toll of the abuse.

Calls for Safer, Transparent Training Spaces
This case has reignited the need for more vital monitoring and safeguarding practices in youth sports coaching. While boxing rings are meant to create strength and discipline, they become cages of fear here.
