From cheering in the stands to fighting under the stadium lights — Fabio Wardley’s story is coming full circle. On 7 June, he will fight against American heavyweight Jarrell Miller at Portman Road, the home of his beloved Ipswich Town.

A Dream Fight at a Dream Venue
British heavyweight boxer Fabio Wardley is about to live out a childhood dream.
On 7 June, he’ll step into the ring at Portman Road — the home of Ipswich Town Football Club — to face American fighter Jarrell Miller for the WBA ‘interim’ heavyweight title.
The bout, titled Wardley vs Miller, is more than just a fight — it’s a homecoming with huge stakes.
Wardley was raised in Ipswich, has been a lifetime fan of the team, and proudly identifies as a “Tractor Boy.”
He implied that a bout at Portman Road was imminent after defeating fellow Brit Frazer Clarke in October of last year, and Wardley vs Miller is making that a reality.
“This is a dream come true for me as a proud Ipswich boy,” Wardley remarked.
“For me, nothing matters more than competing at Portman Road for a world championship. Even though I have a strong opponent, I’m ready to fight. I want to give the people in my hometown a night they will never forget.”

Changing Direction: From Pulev to Miller
Initially, Wardley was scheduled to take on WBA “regular” champion Kubrat Pulev, but plans were shelved.
Instead, it’s now Wardley vs Miller — a showdown that still carries global interest. Miller, aged 36, hasn’t picked up a win since March 2023.
His last two fights ended in a loss to Daniel Dubois, and a draw with Andy Ruiz Jr. An earlier fight planned against Derek Chisora fell apart due to a disagreement with Miller’s promoter.
Miller is still a formidable foe, though. Notwithstanding the opponent’s transformation, the excitement around the bout has only grown.
Since Wardley is aware of the difficulty he faces, he accepts it. His words, “I live for that, hard fights, memorable evenings, and showcasing my abilities on the biggest stages.”
From White Collar to World Stage
Wardley’s remarkable and inspirational journey from White Collar to the World Stage is noteworthy. He didn’t follow the traditional amateur path.
Instead, he came up through unlicensed white-collar boxing before going pro in 2017.
Today, he holds an impressive record of 18 wins (17 by knockout) and one draw. Earlier this year, he vacated his British heavyweight title to focus on bigger opportunities — starting with Wardley vs Miller.
