History has been created by an Indian athlete in the Hockey world. Indian Women’s Hockey Team forward Deepika has etched her name as she becomes the first ever Indian player to win the prestigious Poligras Magic Skill award.
Deepika won the award following the vote from the hockey fans across the world after her sensational solo goal against the Netherlands during the Bhubaneswar leg of the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League.
The particular goal she scored in the 35th minute of the game against the Netherlands earned her the prestigious award.

In February, during the Bhubaneswar leg of the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League against the world No. 1 Netherlands, India was trailing with a 0-2 goal.
However, the clutch moment came for India when the 21-year-old attacker, single-handedly scored the goal by breaking down the defense of the Netherlands from the left, dribbled past the goal line, and scored past the goalkeeper by lifting the ball over the defender’s stick.
Following the goal, India opened the score and gave them the much-needed confidence to make a comeback in the game. Later, India ended up leveling the score to 2-2 and eventually won the game in a shootout. It was not only Deepika’s goal that was on the list of nominations for Poligras Magic Skill award.

The other two solo goals were from Spain’s Patricia Alvarez and Australia’s women’s team. Among the three goals, the winner was decided by the voting system from the fans around the world.
On the other hand, the Poigras Magic Skill Award in the men’s category was won by Belgium’s Victor Wegnez against Spain. As per different reports, Deepika was visibly happy to win the award for her country.
Deepika said that she is truly honored to win the award since scoring that goal against the world No.1 team, was not an easy feat at all. Getting such prestigious recognition for that special moment meant a lot. Moreover, she thanked her teammates, coaches, family, friends and fans for the continuous support.
