In a shocking turn of events, Indian boxer Saweety Boora has filed a police complaint accusing her husband, former kabaddi star Deepak Hooda, in what is now being called the Deepak Hooda dowry case. She states that he and his family mistreated her over dowry demands.
Boora lodged an FIR in Hisar, Haryana, under section 85 pertaining to cruelty caused husband and his relatives.
Saweety Boora’s Complaint and Legal Action
Saweety Boora, an Arjuna award-winning former boxer, has reported her husband, Deepak Hooda, also an Arjuna awardee, and his family for dowry harassment and physical violence.
She filed her complaint on February 25, 2025, at the women’s police station in Hisar, Haryana. This led to the filing of an FIR under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers cruelty by a husband or his relatives.
The couple, married in 2022, following the ceremony Boora reports that Hooda demanded a luxury car that was met. But he and his family abused her physically asking for monetary dowry as well.
Hooda, a well-known kabaddi player with medals from both the South Asian Games and Asian Games, also ran as a BJP candidate in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections in Rohtak district as nominee from Meham constituency but fell short.

Deepak Hooda’s Defense and Reactions
In the Deepak Hooda dowry case, he has defended himself against the allegations, but has failed to show up in the station stating health issues from trauma. He has denied the accusations of dowry harassment and physical assault.
Hooda turned in his medical certificate to validate the claim of absence and asked for a different date to report to the police station.
In his statement, he highlighted that he would refrain from making negative remarks about his wife and pointed out that he had not been allowed to see her.
