Analyst Explains Reasons Behind UFC Vegas 111 Main Event Stoppage

UFC Vegas 111 brought another series of exciting and action-packed moments, yet the entire focus was on the central match: Randy Brown vs Gabriel Bonfim.

Two welterweights fighting each other, Brown, with his brash strength and stamina, met Bonfim, a calculating and accurate striker what’s not to love. 

However, at 1:40 of Round 2, the fight came to a sudden halt leaving many questioning : why was the fight stopped?

The main event of UFC Vegas 111 featuring Randy Brown vs Gabriel Bonfim, came to a sudden albeit reasonable halt. Gabriel Bonfim seized the momentum with accurate leg kicks, hurt the lead leg of Randy Brown, and broke his rhythm at the very beginning. Bonfim’s incessant knee kicks, and jabs gave Brown a hard time, and a precise knee up the middle sent him to the floor. 

At Round 2 (1:40), Mark Smith, a referee, intervened quickly, and he was concerned about their safety as Brown was visibly hurt. While Brown initially protested the decision, the referee awarded the match to Bonfim via knockout (TKo) . Although some fans saw it as the wrong decision, the majority of analysts believe that it was the correct decision.

In my opinion, the stoppage of the Randy Brown vs Gabriel Bonfim match was an accurate decision. The defenses of Brown were failing to stand under the culminating blows. Bonfim displayed a masterclass of tactics, holding back and waiting. 

This match of UFC Vegas 111 also reminded the coaches and viewers alike about the value of leg-kick defense and head placement.
