Longmeadow Lancers Sweep Sci-Tech to Clinch Second Straight Boys Volleyball Title

Longmeadow Lancers are the champions for the second time!

The number 1 ranked Longmeadow Lancers defeated the number 3 ranked Sci-Tech Cybercats in a final at the Western Mass, Class B tournament title with a clean sweep on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers left no stone unturned in the match dominating Sci-Tech from the very beginning of the set.

Let’s look at the highlights between Lancers and Sci-Tech in brief.

Match Overview

On Saturday, history repeated at the Chicopee Comp Gymnasium, as the Longmeadow Lancers dominated Sci-Tech Cybercats by the score of 25-21, 25-20, 25-21.

Sci-Tech made an impressive effort to fight for the title, but unfortunately, it was not the day for them, and they lost via a clean sweep of 3-0.

Set 1: Longmeadow 25 – Sci-Tech 21

Cybercats were determined to win the match against Lancers from the very first whistle of the set and kept the score tight throughout the set. They started strongly, which led Longmeadow to go towards the edge.

However, the composure and skillful gameplay of Longmeadow helped them capitalize on the few errors from Sci-Tech.

The key contributors from Lancers, like Kean Jarvinen and Jace Anoje, made the difference in going over the victory line in the very last minute of the set. Longmeadow Lancers won the set by 25-21 in a fascinating way.

Set 2: Longmeadow 25 – Sci-Tech 20

The second set was interesting compared to the first set. Sci-Tech again started strong, firing out every shot in the book, and took an early lead of 12-6. The momentum was going towards Sci-Tech, but it was Coach Pat Curry who called a crucial timeout that totally turned the rhythm of the game.

From that moment forward Longmeadow scored a dominant 7-1 run leaving Sci-Tech surprised.

Lancers’ Bousquet and Vuong played a significant role in turning the momentum of the game as they contributed 28 digs throughout the game.

Furthermore they kept the ball in momentum, helping the team to make quick defense to offense changes, when required. Longmeadow won the set by 25-20.

Set 3: Longmeadow 25 – Sci-Tech 21

Despite losing back-to-back sets, the morale was high in Sci-Tech, and they again tried to start strong. They took an early lead of 3-0 in the very first minutes of the set, and led by 12-9 later.

Coach Curry again played an amazing role in this set, as he called out another timeout, which again shifted the momentum entirely.

Afterwards, Longmeadow was unstoppable and led the set by 19-13. Sci-Tech was not holding back, but during 24-21, Longmeadow won an impressive rally and sealed the title with a three straight sets win.

Longmeadow won the final set by 25-21.

Star Performers in the Match

The highly anticipated match featured several star performers, who tried their best to win the game.

From Longmeadow Lancers, players like Kean Jarvinen, Jace Anoje, Nhan Vuong, and Chris Bousquet stood and displayed incredible performance throughout the sets.

Meanwhile, Sci-Tech’s Jadiel Rodriguez and Mason Mercado gave their best to get over the victory line, but unfortunately, it was not the day for them.

In the final between Longmeadow and Sci-Tech, Kean Jarvinen served as a key contributor in the match with 12 kills and 42 attacks, supported by Jace Anoje with 12 kills and 35 attacks.

However, Nhan Vuong gave 25 assists to the team, which helped others score points.Similarly, Sci-Tech’s Jadiel Rodriguez stood as a great performer, having 10 kills, 34 attacks, and 10 digs. His all-around performance somehow helped the team fight till the end. Mason Mercado also performed really well, scoring 10 kills, 33 attacks, and 4 digs in total.
