Shahid Afridi and Irfan Pathan always had a bitter relationship, even when they were playing for their teams. But that has turned even bitter and is taking a worse turn with each passing day. A recent video of the ex-Pakistan all-rounder surfacing on social media has captured the attention of many people.
The 2006 Tour Incident That Sparked Controversy Between Shahid Afridi and Pathan
The controversy initially began when Pathan revealed their heated interaction occurred back in 2006.
Pathan quoted: “During the 2006 tour, we were flying from Karachi to Lahore. Both teams were travelling together. Afridi came up and put his hand on my head and messed up my hair. He asked me how I am,” Pathan told Lallantop.
Pathan further explained: “Abdul Razzaq was sitting next to me. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me that meat from various animals is available here. After he said that, I asked whether dog meat was available. Razzaq, who was sitting beside me, was surprised to hear me and asked why I made such disgusting comments. I pointed at Afridi and said that he has eaten dog meat, that is why he is barking like one.”

Shahid Afridi’s Strong Response to Irfan Pathan’s Allegations
Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi called out ex-India all-rounder Irfan Pathan as tensions between the two cricketers grew once again. Pathan caused a controversy when he shared his past event with Afridi during his playing days. Afridi completely denies Pathan’s controversial comments. He also made certain comments against him and challenged him to talk in person rather than digital warfare. Afridi has been pushing the ongoing ‘handshake’ controversy in the Asia Cup 2025, and his comments have tarnished his credibility.
Afridi said on Pakistani TV channel Samaa TV.
Shahid Afridi on Irfan Pathan. 🔥
He should talk to me face to face. I always consider a man to be one who stands in front and talks. He will spend his whole life proving that he is Indian.pic.twitter.com/fhWFBawC9O

“Main usko mard manta hu jo samne khara hoke baat kare. Peeth peeche itni baat karni hain, lekin manu usko hi jo samne aake baat kare. Phir maja ayega na, jawab bhi de sake banda. “
Translated as “(I believe only a man can talk face to face. Anyone can talk behind their back, talking face to face would spice things up as I can also give the perfect reply),”.
Afridi has completely denied that Pathan made such a comment. Afridi also claimed that Razzaq will accept that no such exchange took place between the two players.
Amit Mishra’s Take:
The ongoing controversy between Shahid Afridi and Irfan Pathan feels like a rivalry that never really ended on the field. It initially began as banter in the mid-2000s and has now taken a bitter turn. The clash is being fueled more by interviews and social media. Afridi’s denying the comments and his challenging Pathan face-to-face talk shows he isn’t backing down anytime soon.
Pathan’s version of the 2006 incident, on the other hand, adds spice to an already tense India-Pakistan cricket narrative. Let’s see how this controversy unfolds, is it the truth, or is it all just a misunderstanding?
