Lewis Goldsworthy struck his third List A century as Somerset defeated Warwickshire by 125 runs in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Sunday. The victory marked Somerset’s second One-Day Cup win in three days and lifted them to the top of Group A.
Somerset posted 337 for 8 after losing the toss and being asked to field first, with Goldsworthy scoring 103 off 90 balls, an innings that included seven fours and two sixes. Warwickshire were bowled out for 212 in 39.4 overs, unable to match the target despite half-centuries from Jake Lintott and Kai Smith.
Goldsworthy And Lammonby Anchor Somerset’s Innings
Somerset lost Archie Vaughan in the opening over when Ethan Bamber sent his off stump cartwheeling, leaving the hosts at an early setback. Bamber and Oli Hannon-Dalby bowled tight lines through the powerplay, restricting Somerset to 31 for one after ten overs.
Savin Perera and Tom Lammonby then added 70 runs together before Perera fell for 39, lbw to Rob Yates’ off-spin. Lammonby continued to build, reaching his third half-century of the competition this season off 63 balls. He and Goldsworthy put on 102 runs in 16.4 overs before Lammonby was run out for 85 while attempting a second run into the leg side.
Joshua Thomas then lifted the scoring rate, reaching fifty off 37 balls before holing out to long-on. Goldsworthy brought up his century with a six off 16-year-old debutant Charlie Taylor, before being stumped off Lintott shortly after. Somerset lost late wickets in a rapid collapse but still finished with a total well beyond Warwickshire’s reach.
Theedom’s Four-Wicket Haul Derails Warwickshire’s Chase

Warwickshire’s reply began poorly when Vaansh Jani’s bat snapped in half off the fourth delivery of the innings, bowled by Josh Shaw. Their top order struggled to build partnerships from there. Rob Yates was run out for 15 after Lammonby’s direct hit found the stumps at the wicketkeeper’s end, while Jani edged a delivery from James Langridge through to the keeper for nine.
Zen Malik added 19 before driving James Theedom straight to mid-off, and Alex Davies made 24 before being caught off Jake Ball. Lammonby produced a second direct-hit run out to remove George Garton, leaving Warwickshire at 85 for five. Nineteen-year-old seamer Theedom, playing only his third List A match, finished with figures of 4 for 54 and proved the difference on the day.

Smith And Lintott Offer Late Resistance
Kai Smith and Jake Lintott attempted to rebuild the innings, with Smith striking six fours in a knock of 44 before falling to Ball. Lintott, dropped twice during his innings, reached a 50-ball half-century and finished with 52 before being caught at mid-on off Theedom, sealing the result. Warwickshire’s tail could not extend the chase further, and Somerset closed out the match comfortably.
The result gives Somerset four points and keeps them unbeaten at the top of Group A in the One-Day Cup standings, while Warwickshire remain without a win from the fixture.
