It is extremely hard to bowl out a maiden in a T20 International cricket match, and it is even more often a bowler on his or her first over. This has only been achieved by three Indian cricketers: Ajit Agarkar in the first T20I between India and South Africa in India in 2006, Arshdeep Singh on his debut against England in 2022 and Mayank Yadav against Bangladesh in 2024.
These performances were a display of great ability and calmness under pressure at the very beginning of their T20I careers.
This is an article on Indian bowlers who bowled a maiden over during their maiden bowling over during their first T20I bowling over.
List of Indian Bowlers Who Bowled a Maiden on T20I Debut
| Player | Debut Match | Year | Opponent |
| Ajit Agarkar | India vs South Africa, Johannesburg | 2006 | South Africa |
| Arshdeep Singh | India vs England, Southampton | 2022 | England |
| Mayank Yadav | India vs Bangladesh, Gwalior | 2024 | Bangladesh |

1.Ajit Agarkar vs South Africa (2006)
The first Indian to bowl a maiden over was the bowler Ajit Agarkar, who did it in his maiden T20I over in the first men’s T20I match between India and South Africa in Johannesburg in December 2006.
In the match, Agarkar entered the attack at the sixth over of the South African innings, struck out Herschelle Gibbs with his first ball, and then five dot balls in a row followed to make a maiden, a remarkable achievement in a game where runs are likely to come easily. India came out the victors of the match by six wickets, and the initial influence of Agarkar created the shape of his future contribution to the new format.
Agarkar played an otherwise long international career with India, beyond this achievement in T20I.
He has represented 191 ODIs and 4 T20Is and has the fame of being a dependable pace bowler and handy lower-order batsman. He took 288 wickets in ODIs and was one of the fastest Indian players to 50 ODI wickets.
He made an impressive unbeaten century in 2002 at Lord’s in Tests. Agarkar has remained in the world of cricket as a commentator after retirement and has held significant administrative posts in Indian cricket.

2.Arshdeep Singh vs England (2022)
In July 2022, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was the second Indian bowler to bowl a maiden on his first appearance in T20I cricket, against England in Southampton. Bowling the second over of the English innings, Arshdeep threw the ball briskly and silenced Jason Roy and others without a single shot on the bat (two leg byes only), achieving a maiden, admittedly a rare feat in T20 cricket.
He also claimed 2 wickets during the game and contributed to a comfortable 50-run win by India, immediately becoming a promising short-format bowler.
Since the debut, Arshdeep has been among the most sought-after T20I bowlers in India, who is characterized by a steady swing, effective death bowling, and composure in high-pressure situations. He played a major role in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India, becoming the joint-record wicket-taker of only one edition and being acclaimed by critics globally.
Arshdeep is also a winner of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year and the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Month, the first bowler to win that award. He is also, as of late 2025, one of the most prolific wicket-takers by T20Is in India and the first Indian bowler to reach 100 T20I wickets.

3.Mayank Yadav vs Bangladesh (2024)
In October 2024, fast bowler Mayank Yadav became the third member of the exclusive club of bowlers to complete a maiden over in his first T20I appearance, in his debut match against Bangladesh in Gwalior. Mayank was introduced during the powerplay phase, and his raw pace of nearly 140km/h was so bothersome that Towhid Hridoy of Bangladesh could not score off any of the six deliveries, giving India a maiden in an international debut. He supported that performance by claiming his first T20I wicket shortly afterward and ending with respectable statistics to assist India in walking away to victory.
Mayank’s rise has been rapid. Following excellent domestic performances and results in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with Lucknow Super Giants, where he consistently bowled 150km/h+ and reportedly one of the fastest balls of the season, he was quickly inducted into the national team.
He has been known since as one of the most promising pace prospects in India, with the ability to bowl express speeds and create bouncing and movement. Despite a back injury that disqualified him in parts of the 2025 IPL, he is still a significant component of the fast-bowling future of India and is training on fitness and consistency to realize his potential.
Underrated Indian Bowlers Who Bowled a Maiden on T20I Debut
Notable Indian bowlers have at times created a good first impression in the T20 internationals with a maiden over on their debut, though not necessarily in their first over. These performances are usually not observed, but put emphasis on the control and pressure management ability of the bowler in a format where aggressive batting dominates.
Khaleel Ahmed
In 2018, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, on his T20I debut, bowled a maiden over against the West Indies in his 2nd over as part of his opening spell. Though the maiden did not arrive in his first over, Khaleel was well controlled and disciplined, completing his spell economically as well as taking a wicket.
His early swinging of the ball and hitting of regular lengths assisted India in exerting pressure on the powerplay stage. Although Khaleel never became a regular in the T20I setup of India, he still fared well in domestic cricket and IPL, and his maiden over in his debut is a reminder of his underestimated performance at the international level.
Navdeep Saini
In 2019, Navdeep Saini gave one of the most remarkable performances by an Indian fast bowler in T20Is when he played against the West Indies. He struck a maiden in the twentieth and his last over of the innings, a tense moment of the game when one might suppose that the scoring would be done, and made the superb figure of three wickets to 17 runs.
The raw pace was added to control, and Saini removed important batters and limited the scoring to the end. His T20I debut is still one of the best examples of a low-profile yet very influential debut in an international career, although later injuries and competition capped his long-term run in the international arena.
India’s Young Bowlers Who Made Their Mark
The success of Ajit Agarkar, Arshdeep Singh, and Mayank Yadav indicates how fast a bowler can gain momentum in T20 cricket. Their performances demonstrate the increasing power and scope of the bowling talent of India and provide a good example to future players who make their debut in the shortest format.
In the long run, the future of the T20 team in India may be determined by these young and talented bowlers. As the next generation follows their accuracy, calmness, and competence, India can go on creating bowlers who can deliver the necessary overs during tight moments to provide the team with an advantage in international competitions and keep domination in the T20 format.
