England Women defeated Scotland Women by 38 runs at Headingley on Saturday to record their third consecutive win at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Batting first, England posted 200 for 5, and Scotland fell short at 162 for 7 in their chase.
Sophia Dunkley was named Player of the Match for her 57 off 37 balls, an innings that came on her first appearance of the tournament. She was called into the XI at No. 3 after captain Nat Sciver-Brunt was ruled out with a calf injury.
Dunkley Anchors England’s Innings After Late Call-Up
England lost Amy Jones off the very first ball of the match, caught by Megan McColl as Kirstie Gordon struck early. Dunkley survived a dropped chance on 4 before settling into her innings. She brought up her fifty off 33 balls with a cut shot through point and finished with eight fours and a six before holing out at deep backward square leg off Kathryn Bryce.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge fell early for 7, while Alice Capsey made a 25-ball 40 before being bowled by Hannah Rainey. Heather Knight added 25 before being dismissed off Priyanaz Chatterji. Kirstie Gordon, who switched allegiance from England to Scotland ahead of this World Cup, finished with figures of 2 for 30.
Kemp and Gibson Power England Past 200
With England at 139 for 5 in the 17th over, Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson combined for an unbroken 61-run stand off just 21 balls. Kemp struck four fours and two sixes in her unbeaten 39 off 16 balls, while Gibson hit five fours and a six in her 30 off 11 balls, including an 86-metre maximum down the ground.

The pair took 20 runs off Kathryn Bryce’s 18th over alone, pushing England to 200 for 5, only the fifth 200-plus total in Women’s T20 World Cup history and the fourth of this tournament.

Ecclestone Strikes Twice as Scotland Fall Short
Scotland matched England’s powerplay total but lost momentum after Sophie Ecclestone removed Kathryn Bryce and Darcey Carter in quick succession. Ecclestone’s wicket of Kathryn Bryce was her 150th in T20 Internationals.
Carter had made 29 before being bowled, while Katherine Fraser hit 23 off 13 balls, including two sixes. Sarah Bryce top-scored for Scotland with 34 off 24 balls, featuring a six over point off Lauren Bell, before being caught by Gibson off Linsey Smith.
Pippa Sproul added 27 off 20 balls but was run out off the final ball of the innings. Gibson and Kemp also contributed with the ball, picking up a wicket each, as Scotland’s chase ended at 162 for 7.
With this result, England Women have won all three of their group matches at the tournament, while Scotland remain winless after a narrow seven-run defeat to West Indies earlier in the week.
