Three NZ Cricket Legends Retiring After T20 World Cup
The 2026 World Cup will be an emotional event for New Zealand fans. Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Lea Tahuhu have all confirmed they will retire from international cricket after the tournament. Coach Ben Sawyer described this as the trio’s final mission.
Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine are appearing in their tenth T20 World Cup. They have played in every edition of the tournament since it began in 2009. Meanwhile, Lea Tahuhu remains a vital part of the bowling attack. These three players have given many years of service to the sport and want to finish their careers on a high note.
New Faces Join the Squad

New Zealand introduced two new players to their first-ever World Cup squad. Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp earned their places after showing excellent form in domestic matches. Patel is an off-spin bowling all-rounder who recently made her international debut. Sharp previously led the New Zealand Under-19 team.
Meanwhile, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, and Flora Devonshire will play in their first T20 World Cup. Although they appeared in the One Day International World Cup last year, this is their first time at the 20-over format.
New Zealand Strengths and Injury Update
New Zealand have won seven of their last eight T20 matches. They have scored over 190 runs on four occasions during that winning streak. Their batting depth has certainly improved over the months, but the team faces some challenges.
Spinner Eden Carson will miss the tournament due to a long-term elbow injury. The team faces more pressure in their spin department. Furthermore, the team must compensate for losing three of their greatest players at the end of the campaign.
