In his post, he praised the IPL as one of the world’s best cricketing tournaments but said he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to serve England.
He wrote: “It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties.”
Brook is part of the England squad in the ongoing Test series against India. England’s performance in the first Test was phenomenal, clinching a solid win.
The second Test is scheduled at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 5 at 3:30 P.M. IST.
Amit Mishra’s Take
As a cricket fan, Brook’s decision to withdraw from the IPL just before the tournament disappoints fans and the franchise. His impulsive decision has led him to be banned from the league for two years.
That said, representing a country is a privilege, and there should be no second thoughts on serving your nation. So, Brook did the same, chose country over league, but it would be better if he had stepped back in the 2025 IPL Auction before being drafted by Delhi Capitals.
