Trent Rockets chased down 160 to beat London Spirit by four wickets at Trent Bridge on Sunday, sealing the highest successful chase at the venue in the competition’s history.
Craig Overton finished the match by hitting the winning runs off his brother Jamie in the final over, capping a tense finish between two sides that had both lost their opening fixtures.
Ben Duckett anchored the chase with 75 off 47 balls, moving him to third on the all-time run-scoring list in The Hundred.
Duckett Leads Chase After Spirit Post 159
London Spirit won the toss and were sent in to bat, and four of their top five batters made starts. Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck 24 off 14 balls, while Dewald Brevis top-scored with 39 off 24. James Rew and captain Liam Livingstone also contributed, with Livingstone making 33.
Spirit reached 127 for 4 after 78 balls and looked capable of pushing past 180, but tight death bowling from the Rockets held them to 159 for 9. Calvin Harrison and Mitchell Santner impressed with the ball, and Lewis Gregory and Mohammad Amir also kept things quiet through the middle overs. Matt Henry, who conceded 48 off 15 balls against Birmingham Phoenix on Friday, went for 29 off his 10.
In reply, David Willey removed Finn Allen for a five-ball duck early in the Rockets innings. Tom Banton responded by adding 72 with Duckett off just 41 balls before Andrew Tye broke through, catching Banton at point. Tye then had Duckett caught by James Coles, and Jamie Overton removed Tim David soon after, briefly stalling the chase.

He repeated the shot off the fourth ball, bowled by his brother Jamie, before two twos sealed the win with two balls remaining. Craig Overton finished unbeaten on 20 off six balls and picked up two wickets earlier in the innings, including his brother’s wicket with the bat off Willey’s opening over.

Overton Reflects on Family Rivalry

Speaking after the match, Craig Overton referenced the sibling contest directly. He said Jamie had dismissed him last year, so the win offered some payback. He added that he focused on hitting the ball into the wind and wanted to ensure Rockets stayed in contention until the closing stages, noting that their father would be pleased with how the chase was managed.
Ben Duckett was named player of the match for his knock, which included 12 fours and two sixes. The win gave Trent Rockets their first points of the season, while London Spirit remain without a win after two matches. Rockets sit fourth on the points table, with Spirit down in seventh position following the defeat at Trent Bridge.
