Daniel Bell-Drummond smashed an unbeaten 133 to guide Kent to a six-wicket victory over Group A leaders Leicestershire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup on Sunday. The Kent captain anchored the chase from start to finish, steering his side home with two-and-a-half overs to spare at Beckenham. His innings kept Kent’s qualification hopes firmly alive in a group Leicestershire currently top.
Leicestershire posted 261 for 7 after being sent in to bat first, built largely around a 98-run stand between Hamza Shaikh and Ben Green. Kent chased the target down comfortably, finishing on 262 for 4 in 47.3 overs. The result handed Kent four points and dented Leicestershire’s push toward the knockout stages.
Leicestershire Struggle Early Before Shaikh-Green Stand Rescues Innings
Leicestershire’s innings began poorly. Grant Stewart removed Rishi Patel for 18, caught behind, and Joey Evison had Tom Scriven skying one for just 6 soon after. Matt Parkinson then struck twice in three balls, stumping both Stephen Eskinazi, who made 26, and Nick Kelly, who departed without scoring. Tawanda Muyeye accounted for Ben Cox, caught at mid-on for 20, and Jaydn Denly trapped Ian Holland lbw for 23. Leicestershire slumped to 156 for 6, in serious trouble.
Hamza Shaikh held the innings together, playing patiently before accelerating in the closing stages alongside Green. Shaikh eventually fell in the final over, skying a catch to long-off off Matt Quinn, but not before compiling 93 off 116 balls. Green stayed unbeaten on 57 from just 34 deliveries, striking five fours and two sixes to push Leicestershire past 260. Muyeye also chipped in with 30 lower down the order.

Bell-Drummond Bats Through the Chase Without Being Troubled
Kent’s reply never looked in serious doubt once Bell-Drummond settled in. Muyeye fell early for 30, caught off Green, and two further wickets fell in quick succession as Sam Northeast made 32 before hitting Holland straight to Green at backward point.

Denly lasted just five balls, out for 5 attempting a reverse shot. Harry Finch added a useful 30 before holing out at midwicket. Through it all, Bell-Drummond remained unmoved. He brought up his century and kept finding the boundary, finishing on 133 not out from 126 balls with 17 fours and two sixes.
Chris Benjamin supported him with an unbeaten 24 as the pair saw Kent home without further alarm, sealing the win with 15 balls to spare.

Result Keeps Kent’s Campaign on Track
The win moves Kent back into contention in Group A, where Leicestershire still hold the top spot despite the defeat. Kent collected four points from the match, while Leicestershire walked away empty-handed.
Both sides will look ahead to their remaining group fixtures as the race for knockout qualification tightens. For Kent, Bell-Drummond’s captain’s innings has bought the side breathing room heading into the business end of the competition.
The match was played at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham, with Leicestershire electing to bat first after winning the toss. Ben Debenham and Bilal Shafayat officiated as on-field umpires, with Jason Swift serving as match referee.
