Nothing can be more heartbreaking than the fact that Delhi Capitals lost the third finals in the 3 seasons of Women’s Premier League (WPL). One could say DC is one of the most consistent teams, but they haven’t been able to win any titles to date.
They have topped the tables all the time on the league stage but have never won the trophy. Even in the finals of WPL 2025, they lost to Mumbai Indians, which was painful. Jonathan Batty, however, was proud of his team.
Coach Jonathan Batty’s Views On The Loss
Jonathan Batty has been associated with the Delhi Capitals women’s team for multiple years now.
DC lost the third final, and he addressed the media with a funny side.
The coach stated that there is a common theme to all of the losses, which is that the opposition gets more runs than they did. With three final losses, it could be difficult for the team to come back.
Similarly, Batty also clarified that there was no mental block for the players, and they were up for it right from the start. But sometimes, you will need to give credit to the opposition team who played better than you.

A Close Final of WPL 2025
The final of WPL 2025 was full of ups and downs. If you follow the scorecard of the WPL 2025 finals, you will realize that the game ebbed and flowed one way and the other.
DC won the toss and decided to bowl first. Their powerplay bowling was brilliant, but the innings from Harmanpreet set the fall for Delhi. With the target of 150 to chase, Delhi faltered big times.
None of the Delhi batters were able to set the innings and kill the chase. Besides 30 from Jemimah Rodrigues and 40 from Marizanne Kapp, there wasn’t any massive contribution. The pitch of Brabourne supported bowlers from both sides.
Unstoppable Mumbai Indians
It doesn’t matter whether you are looking at the Mumbai Indians men’s or women’s team; they are one to look out for. In the 3 seasons of WPL, Mumbai has been able to win two titles and qualify for playoffs in all of the three seasons.
Most of the time, Indian batters have stood up, and this season, it was all about Harmanpreet Kaur. Meanwhile, the finals of WPL 2025 were all about the team effort. All the bowlers chipped in and helped Mumbai to win the title by 8 runs.
Mumbai Indians Women Sweep All Records
The title win is accompanied by the domination of Mumbai Indians right from the very start. DC lost the third finals, but it was a team effort from the Mumbai Indians.
By the time the tournament was over, Mumbai Indians had the title along with Most Valuable Player, Purple Cap Holder, and Orange Cap Holder.
Amelia Kerr, the all-rounder from Mumbai, was the purple cap winner with 18 wickets to her name. She picked wickets all around the tournament. Talking about the orange cap, it was Nat Sciver Brunt who won the title.
Being an all-rounder, Nat Sciver Brunt scored 523 runs with the bat in hand. She is the first women cricketer to score 500 runs in the WPL season, which is brilliant.
Likewise, Nat Sciver Brunt also won the Most Valuable Player award for her all-around contribution. Along with 523 runs, she also picked up 12 wickets for the side, 3 of the 12 wickets came in the final, so it’s easy to say she deserved the title.
