England topped the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings on 11 July 2026. England defeated India with a dominant 56-run at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Veteran opener Jos Buttler and captain Harry Brook led the way with a record-breaking batting performance. England completed a 4-0 whitewash of the reigning world champions to end one of the longest reigns in cricketing history.
England Completes Clinical 4-0 Series Sweep Against India
England dominated the five-match series from start to finish. Although the first match in Chester-le-Street ended in a wash-out due to rain, the hosts won every game that followed. And England had a massive win in Nottingham and chased down 159 in just 13.4 overs in Bristol. The final game in Southampton was the perfect end to their campaign.
The visitors were late to the last match as they got stuck in traffic. Despite the delay, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. England lost Phil Salt early in the innings for just six runs. However, this early wicket only brought together Harry Brook and Jos Buttler for a historic display of power hitting.

Record-Breaking Performance at the Rose Bowl
England scored 257 runs, losing 3 wickets in their 20 overs. This score is the second-highest team total in England’s T20I history. Jos Buttler scored 131 runs from only 64 balls. This was his career-best score and the highest individual score ever made against India in T20Is.
Harry Brook supported his teammate perfectly by remaining 95 not out from 45 balls. Brook scored his half-century in just 19 balls. Together, the pair added 233 runs for the second wicket. This stands as the highest second-wicket partnership in T20I history and the second-highest for any wicket.

Upcoming Fixtures: Birmingham ODI Series
England and India will now travel to Birmingham to begin a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series on Tuesday. This series is also significant because it may be the last time Virat Kohli tours England. Kohli has already retired from Test and T20I cricket, making this white-ball series a major event for fans.
England will enter the ODI series with high confidence after their T20I success. Captain Harry Brook has already said that becoming No.1 side was their main goal. In contrast, India will look to bounce back and prove why they are still the reigning world champions in the longer formats.
