Mason Crane scored his maiden first-class century to lead a Glamorgan recovery against Surrey on June 20, 2026. The leg-spinner scored 106 runs from the number nine batting position at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Consequently, Glamorgan reached a total of 358 after they had earlier collapsed to 79-6.
Teenage bowler Tom Norton then dominated the Surrey batters by taking five wickets for 50 runs. Surrey crashed to just 105-runs all out in their first innings. Surrey ended the second day at 82 runs by losing 2 wickets, still trailing by 171 runs. This dominant performance puts Glamorgan in a strong position to win the 38th match of the County Championship Division One season.
Mason Crane Scores Incredible First Century
Mason Crane delivered a career-best batting performance when his team needed it most. He joined veteran batter Chris Cooke at the crease when Glamorgan were in deep trouble at 79-6. Meanwhile, Cooke scored his own century (101) on day one to start the rescue mission. Crane finished the first day on 59 not out.
On the second morning, Surrey bowler Gus Atkinson bowled Cooke almost immediately. However, Colin Ingram returned to the pitch after previously retiring with a finger injury. Crane and Ingram then shared a crucial 106-run partnership.
He eventually lost his wicket for 106 runs when Lawrence bowled him just before lunch break. This was Crane’s first century in his 12th season of first-class cricket. His innings included 12 runs from a single over against Jordan Clark, which helped Glamorgan secure a third batting bonus point. Furthermore, Crane proved his value as an all-rounder by taking two wickets for nine runs later in the day.

Mascon Crane Overcome His Previous Disappointment
Crane missed a century earlier this year. He lost his wicket for 99 runs against Leicestershire just weeks ago. During the match, he tried a wild sweep on the final ball of an over and was stumped.
Therefore, he changed his approach for the game against Surrey. Crane stated that having a senior batter like Colin Ingram with him made him feel much calmer this time. He waited for the right balls and avoided unnecessary risks until he reached the hundred-run mark. His 106 runs came after he had not even scored a half-century before joining Glamorgan two years ago.

Tom Norton Shines with Five-Wicket Haul
While Crane led the way with the bat, 18-year-old Tom Norton played exceptionally against the Surrey batting line-up. Playing in only his fourth first-class game, he took a maiden five-wicket haul that left the visiting team in tatters.
Norton bowled out four international cricket stars in a very short period. He began by bowling Sam Curran. Subsequently, he forced edges from Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, and Dom Sibley. His pace and accuracy meant Surrey could not build any momentum.
He completed his five-wicket haul by using a bouncer to dismiss Adam Thomas. Thomas top-edged the ball to Chris Cooke for a simple catch. Norton finished with figures of 5-50 from his first innings spell. He later took another wicket in Surrey’s second innings to bring his total for the match to six.
A Special Talent for Glamorgan
Norton has enjoyed a dream start to his professional career. Earlier this season, he took a hat-trick on his debut against Somerset. This latest performance against Surrey confirms he is one of the most exciting young talents in the County Championship.
The teenager expressed his excitement about bowling against “big Test players” and getting them out. His ability to swing the ball and use aggressive short-pitched bowling has made him a vital part of the Glamorgan bowling unit.
