Tamil Nadu left-arm spin bowler R Sai Kishore has penned a six-game contract with Gloucestershire to play for the remainder of the 2026 County Championship season. This will be his second appearance at county level, having featured for Surrey back in July in just two games, where he picked up 11 wickets.
Gloucestershire confirmed the signing on Wednesday, with Sai Kishore set to join the squad from their fixture against Worcestershire at Cheltenham, starting August 20.
Gloucestershire’s Season and the Reason Behind the Signing
Gloucestershire have had a rough run this season. They have won just once in eight Championship matches and are out of contention for promotion.
Director of cricket Jon Lewis said the club remains focused on improving results over the final six games. He called Sai Kishore a proven, experienced cricketer who will add real value to the squad.
Lewis pointed to the time of year as a factor too; conditions later in the season tend to favor spin bowling, and he expects the Indian spinner to make a strong impact during this stretch.
Lewis also spoke about the timing of the move. He said it would be interesting to see what an overseas spinner brings to the side at this stage of the campaign.
The club has struggled to turn performances around, and this signing is meant to inject fresh energy into the bowling attack heading into the closing matches.
Sai Kishore’s Record and Recent Form
Sai Kishore has built a strong first-class career, with 223 wickets at an average of 24.21. His recent form has been mixed, though. He played only three matches for Gujarat Titans in the latest IPL season, a quieter year by his standards. Despite that, his overall numbers make him one of the more accomplished spinners available for county sides this season.

Speaking after the signing, Sai Kishore said he was grateful to Jon Lewis and the Gloucestershire setup for the opportunity. He described the club as one with a rich history and a strong structure, and said playing there was something he had wanted to do for a while.
He added that testing his skills in English conditions had long been a goal, and that conversations with the team’s management convinced him this was the right move. He also said he was looking forward to representing the club at Bristol and Cheltenham and meeting supporters at both grounds.

What This Means for Gloucestershire’s Run-In
With six matches left in the Championship, Gloucestershire will be leaning on Sai Kishore to steady a bowling unit that has struggled for consistency. His experience in English conditions from last year’s Surrey stint should help him settle in quickly. The club is not fighting for promotion this season, but a strong finish would still matter for morale and squad building heading into next year.
For Sai Kishore, the transition represents a new opportunity to reconstruct his form outside the IPL environment and hone his abilities by taking on county batting attacks. His first task will be to play Worcestershire in Cheltenham on 20th August, where his place in the team for the rest of the season will become evident.
