The estranged wife of cricketer Mohammed Shami, Hasin Jahan, has once again hit the international headline, demanding a whopping ₹10 lakh per month for her higher maintenance. According to Hindustan times, she is currently getting ₹4 lakh per month as alimony.
Jahan’s lawyer Imatiaz Ahmed confirmed on 2nd July, Wednesday that there is a high chance the maintenance alimony of ₹ 4 lakh might be upgraded to ₹ 6 lakh, as reported by Sports NDTV.
[What’s Happening] Hasin Jahan Demands Higher Maintenance from Mohammed Shami
Hasin Jahan asserts that her current maintenance falls short of her needs, sparking fresh controversy.
Following a long battle, in 2023, the initial interim orders ruled that cricketer Shami to pay ₹1.3 lakh/month total which provides ₹50,000 to Hasin and ₹80,000 for their daughter.
This amount was way short than Jahan’s request of ₹10 lakh (₹7 lakh for her, ₹3 lakh for their child). The lower court dismissed her request, citing high demand.
In her appeal, Hasin Jahan’s lawyer argued that Mohammad Shami’s financial circumstances could support a higher alimony amount.
According to his income tax return for the financial year 2021, the cricketer summoned about ₹7.19 crore per annum, which is around ₹60 lakh per month.
On 1st July 2025, the Calcutta High Court updated Jahan’s payments and ordered Shami to pay ₹1.5 lakh/month to ex-wife and ₹2.5 lakh/month for their daughter, ₹4 lakh/month in total.
What’s more? The court further announced that these are interim payments and may increase further upon final hearing. As per the sources, the pay possibly can rise up to ₹6 lakh/month.
[Revealed] Why Did Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan File for Divorce?
Before we jump to the reason for divorce, let’s begin with their union. Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan tied the knot in 2014. And before being married, Jahan, was a model, working widely in the industry.
In 2015, Shami and his then wife welcomed their first child, a baby girl named, Aaira.
Aaira was only three when her parents-Shami and Hasin Jahan-separated. Hasin accused him of domestic violence, adultery and match fixing.
Now they are separated, Hasin Jahan seeks for a hefty alimony. In an interview with the news agency ANI, she said, “I used to model and act before I got married. That was enough for me then. Shami forced me to quit my profession. He wanted me to live only a housewife’s life. I loved Shami so much that I happily accepted it.”
Further she added, “Now I have no earnings of my own. Shami has to bear all the responsibility for our maintenance. That is why we had to approach the court when he denied this. Thank God there is a law in our country which orders people to bear their responsibilities.”
