India will travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series scheduled between August 15 and 27, 2026, with Galle and Colombo named as the host venues. Both matches will begin at the standard 10 am start time, ruling out a day/night contest despite the Sinhalese Sports Club recently installing floodlights.
No tour matches have been confirmed yet, though earlier proposed itineraries included a four-day warm-up fixture in Colombo before the series.
India’s Recent Record in Sri Lanka
The tour will be India’s first Test visit to the island in nine years, with their last trip dating back to 2017. India have won five consecutive Test matches in Sri Lanka and have not lost a series there since 2008. Both games will also count as the sides’ first World Test Championship meetings on Sri Lankan soil, adding extra weight to the contest.
India go into the series looking to recover points after a 2-0 series loss to South Africa in their previous WTC outing. They currently occupy fifth place in the standings, having recorded four wins, four losses, and one draw. Sri Lanka sit one spot below in sixth, following an innings defeat to West Indies in their last Test.
Where the Two Teams Stand in the WTC Table
Australia and South Africa hold the top two positions in the current WTC cycle, with New Zealand close behind in third. Under the format, the two highest-placed teams at the end of the cycle will meet in the 2027 final. India have featured in two of the three WTC finals played so far without winning the title. Their remaining fixtures this cycle include two away Tests against New Zealand and five home Tests against Australia.
Sri Lanka’s highest finish in the WTC era stands at fifth place. They also have a tour of New Zealand scheduled for early next year, extending a packed run of red-ball cricket for the team over the coming months.

Weather Conditions and Match Schedule
Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, where both venues are situated, generally experiences clearer conditions through August, although afternoon rain remains a regular occurrence, particularly in Galle. The series opens with the first Test in Galle from August 15 to 19, before moving to the SSC in Colombo for the second Test between August 23 and 27.
